Deja turned to face Jason and gave him a faint smile. “Sure, give me a few minutes and I’ll meet you in the lobby.”
“Ms. Rose, can I talk to you in my office?” Stephen said before walking out of the conference room.
Deja tried to keep up with his wide strides, but he was several feet in front of her.
When she finally got to his office, he was leaning on his desk. “Please close the door.”
Deja turned to close the door before facing Stephen again.
“What the hell are you doing?” Stephen growled.
“What? Why are you so angry?”
“Why am I fucking angry?” He ran his hand harshly through his hair. “Why would you agree to go to dinner with him?”
“I looked at you before I accepted his invitation. If you had a problem, you should have said something.”
It took all of his self-control not to pull her into his arms and kiss that confused look off her face.
“Stephen, it’s just dinner?” she said softly.
“You know what, go and have a good time.” He growled as he turned to sit at his desk.
“Stephen…,”
“Just go Deja.” His tone was cold and dismissive.
Deja rolled her eyes and walked out of the office.
A few minutes later, Caleb knocked before walking in Stephen.
“You don’t wait for a fucking response.” Stephen growled. He told Caleb several times to wait for a response before coming in his office, but Caleb never listened.
Caleb smirked as he sat in the seat opposite Stephen. “Congrats partner, you and Deja nailed that presentation. I also found out that the deal with Jason was finalized and he now owns that company.”
Stephen glared at him but didn’t respond.
“If you have a problem with her going out with him, then you should have said something to her.”
“Say what to her?”
“How about admitting that you have feelings for her?” Caleb smiled. “Anyone with a few brain cells can tell by the way you looked at her that you like her. Hell, I think that’s the only reason Jason asked her out, to get under your skin.”
“Fuck you.”
Caleb shrugged his shoulders and smirked. “I’m leaving, but remember, you allowed him to walk out with your woman.”
Stephen wanted to respond as Caleb walked out, but what could he say? Caleb was right. He let Jason walk out with his woman. Stephen grabbed his jacket and walked out of the office.

ason took Deja to one of the most popular restaurants in Center City. Their conversation was fluid. They talked and joked. Deja couldn’t remember the last time she had a conversation with a handsome man that flowed so easily. Her thoughts instantly went to Stephen.
“So, how’s the new job going?”
“It was a rough start, but I’m settling in.”
