eja Rose looked at the dress again in the mirror. “I don't know Liv, this dress may be a little too much and by too much I mean there's not much of it,” Deja said doubtfully. She looked at Olivia in the mirror. She and Olivia Martin had been best friends since college.
“Bitch, that dress is fire, and you look amazing.” Olivia stood and walked over to Deja.
Deja rolled her eyes and looked at the dress again before biting her bottom lip.
“I only have on a thong under this dress. Nothing else will fit.”
“Wait, you have on panties? I didn't think you were supposed to wear anything under that dress,” she teased.
“That's it, I’m taking it off.” Deja walked towards her closet.
Olivia stood in front of her. “I'm kidding. You look amazing. Come on, we're celebrating your new job. Who knows when the next time you will go out?” Olivia gripped her shoulders. “Dee, your body is incredible and there is nothing wrong with showing it off.”
Deja inhaled sharply. “Okay, let's go before I lose my nerve.”
The bouncer narrowed his gaze at them. “ID,” he said as his eyes perused Deja's body.
They handed him their identification. “Keep looking that hard and your eyes are going to burn a hole in her dress.” Olivia said as she snatched her ID and she and Deja walked into the club.
“You didn't have to be so mean,” Deja whispered as they walked in.
“Well, he didn't have to be so creepy,” she said as she looped her arm onto Deja’s as they made their way through the crowded entrance.
Once inside, Olivia was in her element. She glided through the club as she held onto Deja.
The booming music, flashing lights, and dizzying array of dancers and patrons instantly overwhelmed Deja.
They made their way to the bar, where they ordered the first round of celebratory drinks. The two women clinked glasses in a toast to Deja's new job before joining the throng of people on the dance floor. With each song, one that was more upbeat than the last, their energy and enthusiasm grew. Soon they were lost in the music and movement, not paying attention to anything else around them.
Deja and Olivia were moving in sync to the booming music and flashing lights for several minutes before Deja tapped Olivia’s arm and took a deep breath. “I need another drink and some water,” she huffed as they walked back towards the bar.
“Look, there’s a table available,” Olivia said as she started walking towards it. Once seated, they ordered another drink. This time, Deja toasted their friendship.
“Here’s to the chick that always has my back. I love you.”
“Awhh, I love you too. Now enough of that mushy shit, let’s dance.”
As if in a trance, they moved together in perfect harmony; Olivia leading and Deja following along with her steps. Every now and then, someone would join them for a dance or two, but eventually drifted away as Deja and Olivia kept going.
Deja moved her body to the beat of the music. She couldn’t remember the last time she had so much fun. “Okay, I needed another break.”
They were about to get off the dance floor when the deejay played Wobble by V.I.C. Olivia pulled Deja back on the dance floor. “Come on, we haven't done this dance in a long time.” Olivia said excitedly.
They walked on the dance floor and several people were lined up to participate in the line dance.
Wobble baby, wobble baby, wobble baby, wobble (yeah)Get in there, yeah, yeah…
They laughed as they stayed in sync with everyone else.
