“Hi. Is it okay to come in?”
“I said you can, bestie.”
She walked in and closed the door. She walked over to my desk while wringing her hands together.
“Were you in the neighborhood?” I joked.
Chandra smiled. “You can say that. But I wanted to talk to you about what happened at Abuela’s party.”
I nodded. “Yeah, we didn’t really clear the air with that. I know I should have told you about what really happened between Remy’s mom and me.”
“You should have, but I get why you didn’t. You were looking after your dad, which I even told Remy about.”
“Did you know that he knew all along?”
Chandra shook her head. “No, I didn’t. Just like I never told him that your dad was sick.”
“I know; my mom did.”
Chandra put a hand over her mouth in shock. “Oh wow! When did that happened?”
Once I explained everything to Chandra, she let out a huge breath. “All I can say is wow. And now, Remy’s understanding about everything?”
“I believe so, but I don’t know. I don’t want to expect things to go back to normal and it doesn’t.”
“Things will never go back to normal, but at least you two are heading into the right direction.”
“Exactly. I really wasn’t expecting for Remy to be affectionate and caring after everything that has happened, but he is and I’m just taking things as they go.”
“As you should.”
“What about me and you? Is everything cool with us?”
Chandra stared at me. She nodded, and I gave her a hug.
“Girl, you know we’ve been cool since we were running around on the playground together. Nothing will change between us, you know that.”
“Thank you.”
“But you really do need to work on your communication because it sucks.”
“I know, and I will.”
“I hope so, for your sake and Remy’s.”
I nodded as I put the box on the floor.
“Where’s Remy anyway? I didn’t see him in his office.”
“He said he was going to be out of the office since he was going to Delgado Industries.”
Chandra looked confused. “I just called there before coming here. His new receptionist said he was going to be here in the morning.”
It was my turn to be confused as I looked at the door. Where did he go then?
Chandra grabbed her phone from her purse to call Remy. She put it back in her purse and sighed. “He’s sending me to voicemail.”
“Is his mom still in town?”
