“You should have understood that then.”
Porsha nodded. “I should have, but I didn’t. I guess I was more concerned on what your mom was capable of. That, and I wanted to help my father.”
“Which I understand. Believe me, I was angry when I found out about everything; but after taking some time to think about everything, I would have done the same if I could help my dad.”
“I know you found out about the situation from a private investigator, but how did you find out what was wrong with my dad?”
I sighed. I already knew once I told her this, she would be upset with me. “I talked to your mom about it.”
Porsha closed her eyes and sighed. She sat down, clearly shocked over what I’d just said. “That’s why she was nervous when I went to my parents’ after I left your place. She didn’t say much to me, but she was comforting. When did you talk to her?”
“Wow, she knew all of this time. That’s why she wanted me to talk to you.”
“So, you could tell me yourself. She wasn’t trying to overstep her boundaries, but she knew that what happened wasn’t entirely on you. My mom had a hand in it, which caused a rift in so many relationships. She wanted to see people unhappy because despite her money and her marriage, she felt she missed out on a relationship with my dad.”
“What about my dad? Does he know my mom talked to you?”
I shrugged. “I’m not sure, but I don’t think so. I believe she wanted to protect him just like she wanted to clear you.”
“Well, what now since everything is out in the open?”
I went over to her and took her out of her chair. I looked into her eyes, seeing the pain that she was in. I reached for her lips, not caring if anyone saw us because I wanted to kiss her at that very moment. We had a lot to figure out, but that didn’t stop the feelings I had for her. She slowly pulled back from me, unsure of what to think as I caressed her cheek.
“There’re a lot of things that need to be figured out, but let’s take it one day at a time, okay.” She nodded, as I kissed her forehead. “I’m not letting you walk out of my life again.”
She glanced at me and smiled. “I love you.”
I love you too.”
I walked to the door before turning around. “I will be out of the office for the rest of the morning. There’s something that I have to deal with before heading to DI.”
“Is everything okay?”
I nodded. “It will be once I take care of this situation. But make sure to keep working on those edits for Stacy since the deadline is approaching.”
“Of course.”
“And we’ll talk some more, trust me.”
I winked at her, and she smiled. I left her office, not expecting that conversation to go the way it did, but I loved Porsha and that would never change. We had a lot of issues to work out, but I knew I wouldn’t walk out on her. If we wanted this to work, then we’d have to stick together and find a way to regain the trust that we’re both lacking with each other.
I knew once I handled this situation with my mother, Porsha, and I could finally repair our relationship. It may not go back to how things were before; instead, it would be stronger.

hen I knew I had to return to work, I was dreading the inevitable that Remy would fire me, so I would one-up him by resigning. So, I grabbed a box, headed straight to Oxford, and began cleaning out my office. When Remy appeared, I didn’t know what to expect, but when we talked, I realized that he wasn’t angry at me or attacking; instead, he just wanted to talk to me. He wanted things to work out between us, which I was happy about but a bit scared because things could change instantly, and he could go back to hating me. But, as Remy said, we must take things day by day.
I returned the last item that I placed in my box earlier when someone was knocking at my door. “Come in.”
The door slowly opened, as Chandra revealed herself.
“Hey.”
