I gave the side eye. I really wanted to say what I was feeling, but I’d let it digress. This lady was clearly delusional on everything. She was using her businesses and money to control her son, only because she’s not happy with her life.
“With all due respect Ms. Porter, I will decline your offer. My mom and I will find another way to help our dad.”
“So, you’re going to let your father die because you don’t want to leave Remy? Don’t you think that’s a bit selfish?”
“I’ll tell Remy about your little proposal.”
“Which I will deny. Not only that, but majority of Remy’s funding for his new business is coming from me. How do you think he’ll feel when I decide to take it away from him?”
I stared at her, not believing what I was hearing. She was willing to take her offer away from Remy if I didn’t accept her offer and leave her son? This bitch was crazy!
“You’re willing to destroy people’s lives for what?”
“I’m not destroying anyone’s life. I’m trying to make them better. Your dad’s by giving him a longer life to live, while Remy to help his future. You’re just making it easier for me to do it.”
“Why you just can’t let Remy be happy?”
“He will, when he becomes a millionaire.”
“It’s not always about money, Ms. Porter. Yes, it’s nice to have, but it doesn’t bring you happiness.”
“It brought me a lot of happiness, sweetie. More than you could ever imagine.”
“That’s why you’re so miserable in relationships.”
She shot me a dirty look, as I rolled my eyes. The doorbell rang, and Ms. Porter went to answer it. She came back into the living room with Remy.
“Sorry, I didn’t think I was going to take that long. Did you two have a good conversation?” Remy asked.
Ms. Porter smiled. “We surely did. We talked about the importance of family, right Porsha?”
I wanted to roll my eyes again but, instead, I gave a tight smile. “Yes, we did. I got to know your mother very well.”
“Glad to hear it,” Remy said as he gave me a kiss. He smiled at his mom before entering the kitchen.
Ms. Porter came over to me and whispered, “Remember what I said about my offer. I hope you take it. If not, there will be consequences.”
“What will you do? Send me away against my will.”
“Trust me, you don’t want to find out.”
She moved away as Remy walked back in. He looked suspicious as he gave us wondering glances.
“Is everything okay?”
“Everything’s great, baby. Let’s eat. I’m starving.”
I gritted my teeth, no longer wanting to be around this lady. She was vile and disgusting, and I didn’t want anything to do with her proposal. I knew if I told Remy, it would drive a wedge between him and his mother, but if I didn’t accept the offer, I was sure she’d do something to make my life miserable.
Either way, I’m fucked…
I woke up and looked around, seeing I was still in my childhood room and that it was all a dream. I shook my head, wishing I didn’t accept her offer, but my dad may not be alive if I didn’t.
The door slowly opened as my dad walked in. He gave me a concerned expression as I smiled. “Don’t look so worried, Dad. I’ll be okay. I’ve bounced back before, so I’ll do it again.”
“You sure you don’t want me to talk to Remy and make him understand what actually happened?” he asked while sitting down on the bed.
“You don’t have to, Dad.”
