“There’s a reason to why my grandmother said that.”

“Okay, what is it?”

She sighed before speaking, “The night you left was also the night Remy was going to propose to you. He was going to do it at our grandmother’s party.”

I could tell the color was leaving my cheeks as I leaned against the sink. I took deep breaths, realizing what Chandra just said. “Remy was going to propose?”

Chandra nodded. “He wanted for you two to be married before he launched Delgado Industries. Everyone was excited about it, except…”

“His mother,” I said. I shook my head at the revelation and chuckled. “Wow.”

“What’s wrong?”

I glanced at Chandra, not knowing if I should tell my secret when the door opened. We both looked to see who was entering.

“Ain’t this a bitch,” Chandra said.

“Hello to you too, Chandra.”

I stared at the person who I didn’t suspect to be here tonight. The person who had an issue with Remy and I being together.

“Ms. Porter.”

“It’s Mrs. Reeves, now. I didn’t expect to see you here, Porsha, it’s only fitting since you work for my son now.”

I stared at Remy’s mother, not sure if I wanted to be in the same space as her. She had always been an issue to me since Remy introduced me to her a year after we started dating. She never liked me, mainly because she thought I was distracting him from his dream. I didn’t know why she thought that because he was always focused on starting his business.

“If you’re wondering why I’m here, Chandra, it’s because your grandmother invited me. I was doing business in the city, so I figured I’ll come. I’d never had an issue with your grandmother, just like she never did with me.”

“I’m sure she didn’t,” Chandra said. She sort of liked Remy’s mother when she met her during one of Remy’s events growing up, but she despised her when she noticed how she used to treat me. I think that was one of the reasons why Chandra and Remy fell out during the time I disappeared since Chandra figured his mother drove me away. If she only knew.

“Well, I’m glad that you’re here for Remy,” Chandra said.

We were about to go to the door when his mother stopped us. “Can I please speak to Porsha alone?”

Chandra rolled her eyes as she stared at me. “Do you want me to stay?”

“That’s not necessary, Chandra. The conversation I’m about to have is between Porsha and me.”

“This b—”

“It’s okay, Chandra. I got this.”

“You sure?”

“I’m fine. Your brother probably wondering what’s going on anyway.”

She gave a hesitant look before nodding. “If you’re not back in ten minutes, I’m coming back.”

“It’ll only take five.”

Chandra rolled her eyes and went out. I already knew she wasn’t going far, so I took a deep breath before speaking, “Okay, why did you want to talk to me?”

“Is that a way to talk to your ex’s mother? You are not together again, aren’t you?”

“You know we’re not.”

“Just making sure because Abuela is surely making noise about how happy you both look.”
