Once the food was delivered, I took it to Porsha’s office, who was busy looking at her computer. I knocked on the door, causing her to jump.
“I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“No, it’s fine. I guess I was too engrossed in this story to even notice you coming in.”
“Is it really good?”
“It’s a powerful read. You really need to read it, so you would know what your money is being invested in.”
“I certainly will.”
I glanced at the mug that was seated on her desk and smiled. “Wow, you still have this?” I asked while picking it up.
“Yeah. It’s still holds a special place to my life.”
“I remembered you telling me that your parents gave you this.”
“Yeah, I’ll still keep this for years to come.”
We stared at each other as I had to break this moment.
“Since we were here and it’s late, I ordered some food for the both of us.”
Porsha looked surprised, as I sat the bag down on her desk. “Wow, I’m kind of shocked.”
“I wasn’t going to let you starve. I’m not that terrible.”
“I don’t know, you have changed a bit.”
“I’m still the same Remy, Porsha.”
“Could have fooled me from that surprise meeting yesterday.”
“That’s my business side, Porsha, so of course I’m going to be different. Besides, how would you know anything about me since you vanished 10 years ago?”
“I know from what Chandra has told me. There were times when I didn’t want her to tell me how you were doing, but there were times when I needed to know if you were okay. I felt guilty for asking, but I needed to know if you were able to move on from everything.”
“As you can see, I did.”
“Yeah, through your business. But were you able to, personally?”
I looked at her, wondering if she was asking if I was seeing anyone. “You want to know if I’m dating anyone?”
“It’s not my business if you are. I mean, I’m the one who hurt you, so you should be able to move on.”
“It’s really not any of your business.”
She nodded before taking out a container from the bag. She opened it to reveal her favorite dish, chicken parmesan.
“Wow, you remembered.”
“Why wouldn’t I?”
“Because you probably wouldn’t want anything to do with me.”
“Things like that doesn’t go away, Porsha.”
I took my plate and grabbed the silverware out of the bag. There was brief silence as we began eating. “And to answer your question, I haven’t been in a serious relationship since we broke up. There has been a string of flings, but that’s all.”
