I caught up to Daisy before she got too far.

Knowing her, she’d do both. Breakups were hard enough without bringing them to the office. Daisy was a spitfire once someone worked her up. She was a hundred percent the girl who cried in the corner, demoralized, then burned the house down while roasting marshmallows over the embers. “His loss.”

She gave me a sad smile. “Yeah, it was.”

“Don't burn his house down, girl. You need a job.”

She flipped me off. “I enjoy my freedom, and I already lit his favorite jersey on fire anyway. He should get the ashes through priority mail tomorrow.”

“At least you didn’t do like that one song and carve your name in his stuff.” I snorted. “You're a mess. You need a calm guy like Teddy, but outside of work.”

“Please. If you are going to play matchmaker, leave it to the app. There is no scenario where that pairing would end well. I would either destroy him, or he would bore me.”

“He's friends with Ryu. There has to be something up with him.” I shrugged when she gave me a blank expression. “Don't mind me. It's the romance reader in me trying to come up with fantasy pairings.”

“Leave me out of it. I'm swearing off guys while I get my bearings. It's my rule so that I won't repeat the past.”

“That’s pretty smart.” I wondered if offering coaching and relationship counseling would work in Amber as part of the dating experience. Though, I think it would be more effective in person. I may be developing a dating app, but I was more hands-on, like Urd, the owner of the dating agency, Paris in Springtime, in Dani Bond's books. I could totally see myself planning dates for people and getting my matchmaker life on.

I did match Brooke and Marcus. They’ve been married for almost fifteen years.

Who knew? It could be fun to do that.

Then again, that was out of my wheelhouse. I was an artist. I was no good with people. Even Daisy thought my whimsical match was a mess.

“And if anyone would be an office match, it would be you and Ryu. You two have that enemies-to-lovers vibe going strong enough to inspire gossip without it being creepy.”

Me and Ryu. Yeah, whatever. “Ha. Ha. I get the point. No more unsolicited love advice. And please tell me that no one actually thinks that?”

She shifted her gaze away from me.

“You two would be cute. I'm not sure if you'd destroy him or if he’d destroy you. My money is on you because you hide behind the stereotypical, shy Judy-Lynn.”

I shot her a look. “No, I don't.”

She smiled. The skin around her eyes crinkled. “You don't seeyou. I've watched you for the past two years. I know.”

My heart fluttered. I didn't know what to think about Daisy’s assessment. “I don't date at my job, but if I ever do, I will take your advice if you take mine. Deal?”

There was no point in addressing the speculation about Ryu Tuski and me. If I did anything to discourage it, it would ramp up the stories more, and it would take on a life of its own. I’d ignore it and let them have their fantasy pairing.

Ew.

She narrowed her eyes. “Fine. I get the point. Anyway, I saw something in the timeline.”

“That we're behind again?”

She nodded.

“Yeah, I saw that this morning. I went to Ryu's office to ask him about it.”Where he pissed me off and then made up for it by complimenting my work.

I needed plausible deniability in case I lost my cool around his fine behind and...

His fine behind? When did his behind become fine?

Oh no. Daisy's nonsense had taken root in my brain.

It was because Dragon ghosted me. Still no response, but I saw he read the DM.
