It didn't matter. I would figure it all out once Dragon called me. I left him my business card, and the ball was in his court. Though, I should have handed it to him instead of leaving it on the nightstand while he was taking a shower like I was ashamed. I didn't want it to be awkward, but I had to leave early to work on Amber's project outline.
Great sex relaxed me enough to let the genius out. The leads and Ryu Tsuki would not know what hit them. Ellen was incompetent at her job, and so was Jerry. Gold pen, my butt. His skills were okay, but he hardly ever did anything. What was crazy was that Ellen backed him. She kept pushing his deadlines out further like they were in cahoots.
Let me find out they were having an affair or something.
It was the only thing that made sense.
Whatever. Both of them suck, and she was dumb as all get out because he got another job and left her holding the bag.
That's karma, I thought as I pulled into a parking space. Not my circus, not my donkeys. Cuz they were both asses.
I got out of my car with a spring in my step that I hoped people would attribute to me having several fabulous orgasms during my weekend.
“Hey, girl,” Daisy greeted as she fell in step beside me on the sidewalk. “I see you with the boss lady outfit.”
At least the front of the glass and cement building was reporter free, unlike last week. I tried to remain casual. “I thought I’d upgrade. It looks like the vultures got bored. Now I won’t have to do my runway walk into the office.”
“They were getting on my nerves.” Daisy bumped against me with her shoulder. “Enough about that. How was your book thing? You look like a woman who did more than just read about sex. Spill that tea. I need a pick-me-up before we go inside.”
“Martinicon was good. I won the trivia, and I got my book signed—“
Daisy waved me off. “Don't play with me, woman. I may live in Virginia, but I'm from the Bay, and we don't play.”
I eyed her five-foot frame. She may look docile, but I knew she wasn't. The girl could scrap. I'd want her in a fight for her tenacity alone. “Girl, I'm just messing with you. I got laid at my book thing.”
Her grin was infectious. It made it hard for me to remain low key so I added, “Four times, and yes, by an actual human with a penis.”
In a fit of sex euphoria, I even tasted its authenticity. I'd leave that out. I kissed and told her enough. I had to save something for Brooke and Chantel.
“Hot damn! “ She clapped her hands. “No wonder you're floating instead of a ball of nerves.”
I snapped my fingers. “Oh, I got this. Tsuki won't know what hit him, and ole girl will pass out in shock.”
“Oh,” Daisy put her hand on my arm. “You were out getting laid and recreating sex scenes from a book—oh, that sounds kinky. You are such a nympho—Ellen's off the project. They relocated her to another floor on Friday.”
My heart stopped—or felt like it. I swear I died for a second when I heard the news. “You better not be playing, Daisy Tran. Who was the lead? I did all that work when a new person was doing the same thing?”
She smirked. “As far as I know, it's you, so you better show them what the Graphics department can do.”
“You know that's right! And I'll be pushing for you to be lead over the newbies they bring in,” I said. “We stick together. It's a coalition. We rise together, my Blasian sister.”
“You're stupid, but I'm down.” She laughed as we walked into the building. “Jerry can kick rocks.”
I thought she would go with harsher phrasing, but then we were in the lobby with other teams strolling into work.
That was something else I would implement if I got the project manager position, teleworking at least a few days a week. All of us didn't need to come in every day. We were a tech company primarily of introverts. And with the department war that Jerry, Ellen, and whoever else created going on, removing conflicts from the field would work best.
The old separate and slay.
I'd get us back on track if I had to cosplay as Victoria every day to do it.
If I got the job.
Defeating Ellen was easy and already done. Collecting the accolades from it was another matter. I was no stranger to being subordinate to an unqualified, disengaged person. Nine times out of ten, it was a man where all the ladies or I carried him while he progressed to the top.
Dragon Moon was supposed to be different. So far, it was not as much as it should be, but this weekend opened my eyes and cleared some of my doubts. I might just be able to go on my own after all.
I know I'd been saving for it, but the execution was something else.
