I shake my head. "No. Her phone is always on, so I would have heard if the phone rang or a notification for a text. Her briefcase is here, so she's around someplace. Be patient. She'll be back."

"We can call her," Marsten persists.

"Leave her be. She'll let us know if something is wrong," Drew reassures him.

Our moms come running into the office. "Someone has taken Nixon," Mom screams.

"She handed me this to give to you." Drew's mom hands Marsten a piece of paper and a small beeping block.

Both Drew and I hurry to Marsten. He opens the piece of paper. It's a two-word sentence.

Find Me.

The block beeps again. "Who took her?" I ask as panic fills me.

"Some weird older guy and a blond guy. I could have sworn the older guy grabbed her boob. She elbowed him in the eye, but that didn't stop them because they had two other guys with them." Ava rubs her hands together nervously.

Marsten goes straight into business mode. "Mom. Call the police and let them know what happened. Tell them we'll call them when we know where we're going." He turns to me. "Call them to bring the car around the back. This has to be a tracker. Drew. You know what to do."

We move as one quickly.

"What else do we need to do?" Nancy asks.

Drew reaches into a cabinet, pulling out our weapons. "We need at least one of you to stay here in case she comes back. They may try to make her come to the office. The elevator has a failsafe stop button, so she can hold them back. You'll get a notification. When you do, press that button over there. It locks everything down. Then text us, and we'll know what's going on here." He hands Haddon and me our guns and looks at our mothers. "Got it?"

Three heads bob quickly. As Ava picks up the phone, we make our way out of the office to the back elevator. The ride down takes forever, but when we get there and leave, the car is waiting for us.

We jump inside, and Marsten drives. "We forgot to ask which way they went."

"I got this." Drew takes out his phone and accesses the cameras in front of the building. He reversed the film back to when he saw our mothers and Nixon get out of the car. "They went south."

We swerve the car in the direction and as we make our way down the street, the beeps get faster, and we frown. There's nothing out of the way here. Is it too easy or is Simmons just that stupid?

As we pull up in front of a restaurant with a big window, we figure out.

He's just that dumb.

Chapter Thirteen

"I

t's time for you to sign the paper." Smarmy points at the line of the paper they put in front of me.

I roll my eyes. "Can I read it first? I like to know what type of forgery I'm going to commit. I might also need to make some changes."

"Changes? Why would you need to make some changes?" Jake snarls. "Just sign the damn paper."

Smarmy waves him off. "Let her read what she's signing. It doesn't matter how long it takes; she's still going to sign it in just a couple of minutes."

I scan the paper and hold in my laughter. The contract is for the building the business used to be in and nothing else. He must not have read the contract. Solemnly, I pick up the pen and sign all three of the guys' names, then hand it to him. "Can I get a copy?"

Both give me an exasperated sigh. "You don't need a copy. We're done with you now."

"Are you sure?" Drew's hard voice startles the three of us.

Marsten picks up the contract and reads through it before throwing the papers back at Smarmy. "You can have that shit. It won't do anything for you."

"No police?" Haddon's brows lower.
