They won't be happy.
Oh well.
Right after I slide my phone into my back pocket, Jake returns to the table. "Sorry," he apologizes sheepishly. "Work call."
"I understand. Do you have to go in? I can order something at the hotel if needed." I motion to the door.
Jake shakes his head quickly. "Just had to answer a question. We won't be disturbed for the rest of dinner."
"You all work this late?" I frown.
Jake shakes his head again and takes a small bite of the appetizers that were dropped off while he was gone. "Not normally, but I think they're getting paperwork together for tomorrow. You know, the merger with your company."
"Why are they doing it without you? I thought you were the finance manager." What's going on with that? Shouldn't he be there?
He shrugs nonchalantly. "I'm one of four managers, and there are three above us. I did my portion today, and I thought they had finished shortly after I did, but they're still working on it now." Jake leans forward, a conspiratory smile on his face. "What is your company going to do with our company? Will anyone be out of a job?"
"I don't know. They haven't told me anything." The lie rolls easily off my tongue. With bosses like what I have, it's a skill I had to develop. I don't give out any information. It's a code.
Jake's look becomes skeptical. "Are you sure you don't know anything? Not even in passing? They look like they depend on you a lot."
"There are so many things I don't know. I'm on a need-to-know basis, and that's something I don't need to know yet." My lips tilt at the ends as I lean forward. "What is the real reason you and Tasha broke up? She told me it was because of your "O" face."
Jake's head goes back. "O face? Oh hell no. Let me tell you the real reason we broke up."
Our food is delivered, and I not only find out why Jake and Tasha broke up— cheated by the way—we also reminisce about our time in college. I find out how Jake ended up with this position in France, and I tell him how I ended up working with the guys.
By the time we get back to the hotel, I have a small buzz, and we're getting close. We get out of the cab, and he escorts me inside the hotel. He finds a dark corner and lays his lips on mine. "Can we go to your room?" Jake's soft lips work their way down my neck.
I shiver. "How about tomorrow after the final paperwork is signed? I need to get some sleep tonight. Our meeting is early in the morning."
His lips reach the crook between my shoulder and neck, and I almost melt. "Are you sure?" His thumb brushes my nipple.
Fuck it. "Come on up. It will be worth it to lose sleep." Plus, I'll be a lot more relaxed when they allow Smarmy near me. We work our way over to the elevator, trying not to be conspicuous, but our hands are all over each other.
As soon as the elevator closes, Jake pushes me against the wall, his lips hard on mine. My hands slide under his shirt. One goes up to his chest, and the other slides down the front of his pants. He's not working with a lot, but it will do.
Our tongues collide and tangle with each other. When the elevator doors open, I reach into my purse with the hand that was on his chest and blindly find a card. I hope to goodness that it's the one I need to get in my room. This is the closest I've gotten to an actual penis in a good long while.
Luckily, the key works, and we continue our assault on each other as the door closes behind us. "If you don't have protection, I do," I breathe into his mouth.
"I have some. Between the both of us, we may be able to go all night." His lips smash onto mine, and I moan.
"Ahem." I frown, slowing down.
"Wha?" Half comes out of Jake's mouth.
My brain clears. Fuck.
"Ahem." Marsten's voice is louder this time.
My head goes back against the wall, and I look deeper into the room. The three of them are on the couch, observing me trying to get laid.
Fuck again.
"Jake. I'll see you tomorrow, okay?" I pull my hands out of his pants.
When I let go of his dick, the fog clears quickly. He gazes around the room and visibly jumps when he sees Drew, Marsten, and Haddon. The three of them manage a controlled glare his way. Jake clears his throat. "Um, I think I better go. I'll see you later." He straightens his clothes as he leaves the room.
