The three of them follow me through the door, practically crowding me in my room. Sighing, I take a seat on the couch in the corner. They follow me, taking up the rest of the couch and the chair sitting across from it.

"You can get some information from that guy. Maybe something that will help our position with Simmons." Marsten crosses his arms.

I resist the urge to roll my eyes again. "We don't need our position helped. If he doesn't sign the contract, he'll be out of business in a week. We know this, and he knows this. What would I get from Jake that would change this?"

"Why and how they got into this situation would help. We would have more leverage," Drew adds on to what Marsten says.

I scratch my head. "We're already getting the business at bargain-basement prices. How much lower can we go? Free?"

"It'll be easier to boot him out when we finish this if we have more ammunition on him." Marsten's gaze on me is hard.

I purse my lips. "I'm not going to try to question him about it, but if it comes up in conversation, then I'll ask. Otherwise, it's just two friends catching up." And maybe I can get laid out of it. That would be a positive.

"Maybe we can give your job to someone else who is willing to do what we need you to do," Haddon threatens.

I roll my eyes hard this time. "We tried that already, and it didn't work. Also, go ahead. Maybe I can finally get some rest and a few days off." And get laid. I need sex.

I don't know why they do this shit. They know it doesn't work.

The three of them stand, resignation filling their faces. "Just see what you can get out of him," Marsten growls as they make their way to the door. "We expect the report in an hour."

The door slams behind them. Peace at last. Pulling out my laptop and my notes, I get them organized before sending them to the legal team and the guys. Then I take a more leisurely shower and enjoy the warm streams of water massaging my body.

Getting dressed in a pair of jeans and a sweater, I grab my jacket as I walk out the door. When I open it, Marsten is standing in front of it, his face grim. "Where are you going?"

"To go catch up with my old friend. What do you want?" I frown.

He crosses his arms, his shoulders flexing under his hair. "You need to order dinner for us, and we need to go over the notes you sent us."

"There's no reason to go over the notes. We went over everything already in the meeting. The legal team will write up the contracts, and we can finalize everything tomorrow afternoon at the meeting. Besides, I thought you'd want me to pick Jake's brain for his company."

Marsten's jaw twitches. "Hm." He sighs deeply. "Go ahead. Get us all the information you can."

"Thanks. By the way, your dinner is already on its way." Inwardly, I roll my eyes, closing the door behind me. Marsten's eyes bore into my back as I stroll to the elevator. I keep my back to him as I push the down button and wait for the elevator. I continue to hold my breath as the ding of the elevator signals the doors opening. Only when I get on, and the doors close in front of me, do I release my breath.

Why do I continue to work for them?

I can quit now and have enough money to last me a while. But if I do quit, what's to say they won't blackball me? They've done it to others. But they did have good reasons. That Wendell guy was selling our organizational secrets to a company who we were trying to take over. Then there was that girl who tried to sleep her way through upper management so she could find a rich husband. When she couldn't find one, she tried to sue for sexual harassment.

One video of her admitting to what she was doing ended any lawsuit. I never saw her again.

I'm sure if I left, the same thing wouldn't happen to me.

Would it?

he elevator slows down and stops before opening. The lobby seems a lot busier than it was just a little earlier. I step into and around the busy area, making my way to the front doors. Jake enters as I reach the area.

His smile brightens when he sees me. "Nixon, you look amazing."

"Thank you. You look quite handsome yourself. What are we doing tonight?" I slide my arms through my jacket, and Jake assists.

After my jacket is on, he rubs my arms, warming me. "I thought we would go to the Eiffel Tower, then have dinner. How does that sound?"

"I love it. Do you know, as many times I've been to Paris, I've never been there? As a matter of fact, this is my first time getting to see any of it. I'm so excited," I admit as we walk out the door.
