“Keep holding back. And make sure Nik holds back also. Don’t give Zian what he wants. I think storming in and trying to rescue her is precisely what Zian wants you all to do.”

“What do you mean?”

“Seven and Liam made a personality profile for Zian built around all of his past actions and behavior. I was looking over it with Arson and Rain yesterday. We...”

“Babe, Rain isn’t a killer. Why was she looking over the profile?”

“Because Letisha is her friend. Why wouldn’t she look at it?”

“You think it’s a good idea for her to be this involved?”

“If my best friend was kidnapped, I’d want to be involved.”

“Yeah, but you’re different from Rain.”

Exa frowned. “Meaning?”

“You’re used to this kind of stuff.”

“What kind of stuff?” Her head cocked a little more to the side with each word she uttered.

“Killery stuff.”

“And Rain isn’t? She’s married to a former hitman for hire.”

“Yeah. But Dean being a killer doesn’t make her a killer.”

Exa shrugged out of his embrace and stepped away from him.

“Okayyyy,” she said, drawing the word out. “And? What’s your point? Does the fact that she’s never taken a life make her better than me or something?”

“What the hell are you talking about?”

“I’m talking about you.”

“Are you? I’m confused.” What had he said to make her angry? And what could he do to diffuse the situation fast?

“You know what? Forget it,” she told him with a roll of her eyes.

“You’re sexy when you roll your eyes,” Scar said, mostly to lighten the mood.

“I’m also sexy when I execute motherfuckers.”

“Yes, you are.”

“I’m feeling very executiony right now.”

“That’s not a word.”

“Scar!”

Chuckling, Scar grabbed her arm and pulled her against him. She struggled for a bit before giving in and pressing her cheek against his chest.

“Stop being mad.” Scar rubbed his hand up and down her back.

“I’m not mad. I just don’t like it when you act like Rain and Oni are both damsels who need protecting and then act like me, and my team are just one of the guys. We’re damsels too. We don’t need protecting, but we’re still ladies. We like sweet shit.”

What the hell was she talking about? Scar stared down at her.
