Exa stared up at him and sighed. “This must be the meeting we’ve been waiting for. I guess it’s time to discuss what we’re going to do about the Triad.”

“Yeah. Vlad must be here with news. I’m surprised he’s been able to negotiate with Zian’s bitch ass at all, especially for this long.”

“It’s a good thing he was able to. It’s given us time to heal. If he could hold him off for a bit longer, that would give us time to heal completely.”

“We’ll find out if he was able to soon. First, we need to shower. Come on, love.”

He and Exa left the comfort of their bed. He stared at her ass as he followed her to the bathroom. She must’ve felt him looking because she stared over her shoulder and then wagged her finger at him.

“Eyes up here,” she told him. “We’ve already disobeyed the doctor’s orders twice. We won’t be doing it again.”

“Says the woman who initiated the sex.”

“I had no choice. Your cock was already standing at attention. I’m a frugal woman. I couldn’t let a perfectly good hard-on go to waste.”

She stretched her hand toward him. “Come on. Let’s make this shower quick so we can be there for Nik.”

He clasped her hand and followed his woman into the bathroom. He’d follow her anywhere, even to the end of the world and back. And though he wished he could stay wrapped in her arms all day, that was impossible. Even though they were living in their own little paradise behind their closed bedroom door, their reality was far from ideal.

There was chaos going on outside their room. It was a chaos no one in the Timeless safehouse could hide from. It was a chaos that made some feel like history was repeating itself. They were all hoping this incident didn’t end in tragedy the way the last one had. No one was hoping for that more than Nik.

In the shower, Scar held Exa close, thankful to have her in his arms. Thankful that she was safe. Thankful that he wasn’t in Nik’s shoes right now. He felt guilty for even thinking that. But it was the truth. He didn’t think he could handle going through what Nik was going through. He damn sure couldn’t handle going through it twice, as Nik was.

The once smiling and always joking Nik had changed drastically since they’d gotten that video from Zian’s bitch ass. Everyone in the safe house claimed this change in Nik was normal because he was sad and worried about Letisha.

However, it wasn’t sadness that Scar saw in Nik’s eyes. It was something different, something dark. Nik was changing. No matter how this ended, the Nik that came out on the other side of this wouldn’t be the Nik they’d once known.

And that scared Scar.
