“As I was saying, once upon a time, there was an assassin princess.”
Exa’s eyes popped open. “What? I’ve never heard that story. Did Skye really tell it to the kids?”
Scar nodded. “And if you’ll be quiet, I’ll tell it to you.”
Exa went silent. Scar continued the tale of love, blood, and magic, taking Exa’s mind off her problems, even if it was just for a little while.
Chapter Ten
Exa
––––––––
He couldn’t rememberthe fairytale.
Scar started and stopped the story a dozen times before finally giving up.
“Booo!” Exa jeered. “Zero stars. I would not recommend.”
Scar chuckled. “I confess, I can’t remember the entire story.”
“That’s okay. What you did remember of it was good. Too bloody for Skye to be telling to children, but still good. That girl has a wild imagination. Soooo. Has it been ten minutes yet?”
“No.” Scar rested his head on the bed. “Rest for five more minutes.”
Exa nodded as she stared into Scar’s eyes.
"Close your eyes and rest properly," he told her.
Exa shook her head.
"Exa."
"I won't be able to rest properly if I close my eyes. My mind will still think about all the things I need to do. And it'll fixate on all the things that are bothering me. Staring into your eyes is better. I'm able to relax more when I look into your eyes. You bring me peace, Scar."
Exa could feel the tears forming in her eyes. Being in love was making her such a weak bitch. Yet, she didn't feel weak at all. Not when she was with him. He scooted a little closer to her.
