Chapter Six

Scar

––––––––

One week.

Would he be able to sneak off for one week to handle the judge and get back in time to handle Zian? There was always the Dark Net. Hiring someone to take the judge out would be no problem. Well, yes, it would. Although the Dark Net was an online forum of criminal activity and chaos. It was organized chaos, monitored chaos.

It had a dark code of its own. There were people who monitored each transaction and followed it until its completion. They investigated anything that seemed out of line with the code, anything that could lead to their clients no longer trusting them. The judge had once put out a call through the Dark Net.

If they looked hard enough, they’d find that Scar had failed to complete a task for the judge and then ordered a hit on him. Though in their dark circles, there was nothing wrong with that. The Dark Net would view Scar as unreliable and wouldn’t trust him to take on future assignments.

To prevent him from trying to, they wouldn’t hesitate to send someone after him. Having killers come after him was exactly what he was trying to avoid. So, the Dark Net wasn’t an option. Plus, going that route would deprive Exa of getting the revenge she’d been craving for years. Like Scar, Exa enjoyed handling things with her own two hands.

If she’d wanted to hire someone to take out the judge for her, she would’ve done so years ago. She’d been patiently waiting to make him pay for what he’d done to her. Not only for what he’d done to her, but for what he’d done to her adoptive mother also.

Scar wouldn’t deprive her of the satisfaction of seeing the judge suffer with her own eyes or of making him suffer with her own hands. He’d made her a promise when they’d first met. And he’d never break his promises to her. Scar glanced at her from the corner of his eyes as he recalled his vow to her.

“I’ll make him wish he’d never been born,” Scar had promised. “I’ll make him wish he’d never entered your life. I’ll find all the dirty shit he’s done and expose it so the world can see his horns. So, they can see the devil you see when you look at him. I’ll make him pay for any crimes he’s gotten away with. After I finish beating him senseless, I’ll bring him to you and lay him at your feet.”

“You’ll let me be his executioner?” she’d asked.

“I will,” he’d promised.

I will,Scar thought as he watched her. A crackling noise sounded from the screen at the front of the room just as Scar slid his phone back into his pocket.

“Vlad’s on,” Garrett stated.

Everyone faced the screen to find Vlad seated behind a desk, dressed in a dark suit with his hands clasped together on top of some files. Dark circles hung low under his eyes. He looked like he hadn’t slept well in weeks. Like Nik, Vlad’s knuckles were bruised. Not bleeding, but bruised.

“Hello and thanks for meeting with me today,” Vlad greeted them.

“Thankyou,” Garrett said, turning his chair around to face the screen before sitting down. “You look like death,” Garrett voiced what the rest of them were probably thinking.

Vlad nodded but didn’t address his appearance. Instead, he got straight to the point of the meeting.

“Zian wants to meet with the Leader to discuss a deal they’re working on,” Vlad informed them. “I don’t know when this meeting will take place or if it’ll be here in Russia or the States. What I do know is that the Leader has added Letisha to the deal.”

“What the hell does that mean?” Nik asked.

“It means, if the Leader and Zian can come to an agreement, then Zian will turn Letisha over to the Leader.”

A round offuck no’sfilled the air.

“In turn,” Vlad continued, speaking over them. “The Leader will turn Letisha over to you all.”

Nik stood up abruptly, causing the table to shake and his chair to fall over.
