She nodded.

“So, you’re bringing her everywhere with you now?” Stefan asked.

“The window is down,” Eve called from the passenger seat. “I can hear you.”

“I know,” Stefan told her.

She rolled her eyes, then resumed looking at the trees lining the road. Stefano followed him to the back of his car. Enzo popped the trunk. That’s where he’d stored his duffle bag, along with a few other necessities.

“Why did you bring her here?” Stefan whispered as Enzo lifted the lid on a chest of weapons.

“She wanted to come.”

“So, what? If she says she wants the moon, will you give it to her?” Stefan asked.

Enzo handed a bag of explosives to him and said, “If that’s what she wants, I’ll try my best to give it to her. Have you checked the woods on both sides of the road?”

Stefan took the bag and answered. “Yes. There’s no one in the woods. No cameras either. Which is strange. They should’ve been guarding this area. If they’re not, it means they’re not concerned with any one approaching.”

Enzo stared toward the dirt road that led into the forest.

“They’ve been doing drop-offs with Adduci for a while now,” Enzo said. “Maybe they’ve gotten used to no one showing up to foil their plans. Because of that, they’ve gotten lax.”

“That could be it,” Stefan agreed. “Orazio said a vehicle left already. That could’ve been the Bianchi don leaving.”

“I hope not. I want to put my hands on that bitch.”

“Even if he did leave, he won’t be able to hide. You’ll get your chance.”

Lino and Terzo left their vehicles and approached Enzo’s trunk. They were followed by the four soldiers who arrived after them. The Cattaneos were now getting out of their car, also. Enzo’s small but deadly team was complete. Terzo approached Enzo with a smile on his face.

“Cousin!” Terzo exclaimed. “I haven’t seen you in a while. Where have you been?”

Enzo reached into the trunk and pulled out the spike strips. He handed one to Lino and one to Terzo.

“Block the roads so they can’t escape from either direction,” Enzo told them.

“On it,” Lino replied, then walked away.

Terzo leaned against Enzo’s trunk. “I’m glad you asked Lino to bring me. I was starting to think you were still mad at me for sleeping with that model who used to like you.”

What the fuck was he bringing that up for? Stefan chuckled as Enzo looked to where Eve was sitting to make sure she hadn’t heard Terzo. Enzo hadn’t given a damn about that model. He’d avoided her at every turn and was glad Terzo seduced her, pulling her attention from Enzo. The only reason he’d been mad at Terzo was because his cousin had beat up the model’s boyfriend, who was the son of their ally.

Don Ermanno had sent both Enzo and Terzo to pacify their ally and prevent any animosity between the families. Enzo hated pacifying motherfuckers. Because of that, he'd been pissed off with Terzo. If Eve had heard Terzo’s words, she would’ve gotten the wrong idea. Terzo caught on to where Enzo was looking.

“What do we have here?” Terzo drawled, smiling as he walked over to the driver’s side of Enzo’s car.

“Terzo, lay the strip down,” Enzo ordered.

“Yes, boss,” his cousin replied as he peered into Enzo’s car. Terzo’s eyes widened. “Well, hello, la mia bellezza. And what is your name?” Terzo asked Eve, voice deeper than usual.

“Her name ismine!” Enzo growled. “Get to work, Terzo. Now!”

Terzo looked from Eve to Enzo. A few seconds ticked by as he stared at Enzo. Finally, his gaze returned to Eve.

“My cousin looks serious,” Terzo told her. He sighed and continued. “I don’t want to get killed. So, I won’t turn on my charm. But, if he mistreats you in any way, know this, Terzo DeLuca will protect you.”

Enzo heard Eve say, “You better get to work. Or it’ll be me protecting you.”
