“Come on, Tristan. Let that shit go.” I glance over at Andy and Rod, smiling as I drag my gaze back to Shane’s.

Then, before he has the chance to respond or move, I swing. I punch the fucker right in the jaw, causing him to stumble back into Rod. Rod shoves him back in my direction, and I hit the bastard again. He starts to fight back, hitting me. I’m ready for the fight. I’ve waited a long time for this day.

Fists fly before we’re pulled apart. I know it’s the club’s security, but with all the beef we have with this prick, I know they won’t bother me. When we’re forced apart, they stare him down.

“You don’t belong here,” One of them tells him as I smirk at him.

“Didn’t I tell you that?” I ask him.

“Fuck you, Tristan! This isn’t over.”

“Not until your hot blood is spilled all over my hands, it isn’t. You got that part right,” I warn him.

“You think you can kill me?” He sneers at me.

“You think you could kill Jimmy and not have that shit come back on you? There’s a place and a fucking time, Shane. And your time is coming.” I can see the anger in his eyes, but he knows this shit isn’t over, not by a long shot. He took a life, and the only way to repay that is by taking his. But with everything, the time has to be right. I can’t draw too much attention to myself, and I don’t. I keep a low profile and do what needs to be done, and just like with all things, this is worth waiting for.

The security drags his ass out of the club as we all watch and grin at him. He’s pissed, we can all see it, but he killed a good friend of ours, and I’ll repay that debt at some point.

“Fuck, I can’t believe he showed up here,” Rod grumbles as I grab another beer and bring it to my lips.

“Me either. Stupid fuck.”

“He’s going to get what’s coming, Tristan.”

“I know he is. By my fucking hands.”

“We’re all here to help with that shit,” Andy adds.

“No. He’s mine and mine alone. I’ve never wanted something so bad in my goddamn life,” I tell the two of them.

The night wears on, and the more I smoke, the more I want to fly. There’s something wrong in this head of mine. Has been for a long time. No one can figure me out. No one knows what it is. I’ve been sent to specialists when I was younger, and they have done all kinds of sick shit to me. Every test, every trial, and nothing. I’m a rarity. An oddity. A mystery no one can decipher, and to be honest? I don’t mind it. I love being me and who the fuck I am.

Chapter 4

Ash

“Come on, Ash. Live a little,” Annie, one of my friends, encourages me.

“It’s someone’s car!”

“And? We’re going to track you the whole time.”

“What if they find me in there first and murder me?” I ask her with a slight laugh.

“No one is going to find you.”

“We’re on the worst side of town, Annie. My dad is already going to have a fit if he finds out,” I remind her and myself. I’m praying to God he doesn’t find out, and I’m also praying for forgiveness.

“I did it last time, and I was fine,” she reminds me. Her idea of fun is getting into some stranger’s car without them knowing and letting them drive to wherever it is they’re going, then having friends pick us up. We make sure we’re tracking each other before we do it, and honestly, I know just how dangerous it is, but I love the little thrill and butterflies I get when they do it. I’ve never done it yet, but they all have.

“Okay, fine. Which car,” I ask. Annie and Ginger both look around before picking one.

“That one.” I nod my head, and we sync our phones before I sneak over and test the trunk. The SUV opens easily, and I slide in, lying down so I can’t be seen. I pull the door shut behind me and that’s where I stay until I hear someone opening both thedriver and passenger doors. They both slam shut, and I clench my eyes shut as the car starts up and we pull out. I look down at the screen of my phone and lower the light levels so they won’t be able to see the glow.

My heart is pounding against my ribs as music plays, but no one speaks. The ride doesn’t seem to take long, and before I know it, the engine dies, and they climb out. I wait a few minutes with my heart rapping against my ribcage until I feel it’s safe to climb out. When I do, I glance around but don’t see Ginger and Annie here yet.

I look over and notice it’s an old warehouse. I walk closer and see there’s a small window with no covering over it, so I peek inside. That’s when I see him.
