“Where did this come from?” I ask, pointing at the cat dish in our backyard filled with kibble.

“From the pet store.” Sadie smiles, walking past me into the house.

I tilt my head. “But we don’t have a pet?”

“He couldhearyou.” She holds a finger up to her lips. “It’s for Boo. What if he’s hungry?”

The cat is clearly well-fed. I doubt we’re the only house in the neighborhood he visits, but she looks so excited. “Good for him,” I say, following her into the kitchen, where there are a few dozen sugar cookies cooling on the counter.

“I feel like I’m getting in on this during the fun part,” I say.

“You won’t be saying that after your hands ache from squeezing these damn piping bags,” she giggles.

She’s been learning how to decorate with this kind of icing and offered to make another set of race-themed cookies for me to use for content.

“Have you ever thought of starting your own business?” I ask. “You could have a bakery, or you could make baking videos if you wanted.”

“I have thought about it. Devon suggested it a few times, and Allie has said she’ll sell my stuff atTurbine Caféif I decide to open a bakery. But I like that it’s a hobby. I don’t want to monetize it. I don’t want baking to be a job,” she says, pulling a bowl full of frosting out of the refrigerator. “They both like running businesses, but I like having a job I just do and then don’t have to think about later. I play with spreadsheets and analyze data, and thenI don’t. It’s perfect.”

“That does sound perfect for you. When you explain it that way, I’d hate to see you lose any of the joy you get from baking,” I say, watching as she begins to prep piping bags. “Are you going to let me help with this?”

“Not yet,” she says, her eyes dropping to my lips.

She keeps doing that. And I’m sure I do,too.

We just got back from Devon and Rhett’s place this morning. It’s been less than a day since she told me her secret, and it’s all I can think about.

How the hell someone was with this gorgeous woman for nine years and never once tasted her blows my mind.

I don’t want to push her, but I know she’s interested. Her mind was racing, so I dropped it. But now I’m second-guessing myself. If I’d waited for her to answer, would she have said yes?

“Cam,” Sadie’s voice cuts into my thoughts. I realize I’ve stepped in closer to her, and now I’m the one staring at her lips.

“Yes?”

“What are you—” she swallows, pulling her shoulders back. “What are you thinking about?”

It doesn’t really count as her bringing it up, but I might go absolutely mad if I don’t ask her just one more time.

“You sure you want to know?” I ask, lowering my voice.

She nods. “Please tell me.”

“Same thing I’ve been thinking about since last night,” I say, wanting to touch her but making sure I keep my hands to myself.

“Oh?” She swallows again.

My eyes scan her face. “You are absolutely stunning. Your freckles, those dimples, your lips. Do you know I’mobsessedwith your lips?”

“I didn’t know that,” she says, her voice almost a whisper.

“I am,” I nod. “I’ve been thinking about them, and I’ve been thinking about what I offered you.”
