“When you get tired of my shit—”

“That’ll never happen.”

He cocked an eyebrow, sending a shiver down my spine. “Itwill. And when it does, promise you’ll drop me like a hot potato.”

“I’m not convinced.”

“And that’s why I need you topromise. Promise when you’re tired of my bullshit that you’ll leave. Don’t stick around like you did with Kyle.”

Thatstung a little bit—but I wasn’t about to justify my past actions. Instead, I took a long breath in through my nostrils and then picked up the shot glass, swallowing the rest of the whiskey. “Fine. I promise.”

This time, he smiled genuinely, and the way his eyes seemed to peer into my soul made every muscle turn to jelly. “Then I’d like to invite you for arealdate on Friday.”

Even though he’d said the word, it was hard to believe this was real. I was so afraid to believe, and my voice was too soft when I replied. “Yes.”

“Do you want to go out somewhere or do you just want to come to my place?”

Finally, I smiled. “You owe me one of your killer steaks.”

He nodded. “Then it’s a date.”

On Friday,I practically ran home from work to get ready. Wolf had denied me for so long that I was all but ready to explode with desire—so I wanted to make myself irresistible.

I started with a long hot shower, refraining from touching myself, because I wanted to save all my pent-up need for Wolf. It was difficult, though, because that desire was coursing through my veins. Already, I felt like I was on the verge of orgasm. Every nerve was on fire, tingling, eager.

But I focused on shaving and shampooing and scrubbing, and I didn’t step out of the shower until the water turned cool. After smoothing creamy vanilla lotion all over my skin so I would be soft to the touch, I put on my robe and blow-dried my hair before stepping out of the bathroom.

Kyle was on the couch as I walked through the apartment. “About time.”

“Oh, sorry. You could have knocked on the door.”

“Nah. I haven’t been up that long.”

Nodding, I continued walking toward my bedroom as Kyle stood. I half-expected him to say something and felt intense relief when he didn’t. We’d already had an uncomfortable conversation about me dating someone, but I wasn’t ready to tell him that I would be seeing Wolf later in the evening.

I rifled through my drawers, trying to find the perfect pair of underwear. I’d never spent much on panties and bras, figuring they only got ripped off when things got steamy with Kyle and me…but now I realized I wanted to up my game with Wolf.

I’d have to go shopping soon, probably online.

In the meantime, though, I planned to pick out the best of what I had. I found a black bra and panties, but nothing too exciting. I considered for a moment not wearing any underwear, but I wasn’t sure what Wolf would think about that. For our first time, I wanted to keep things a little safe.

But it was hard not letting my fingers roam my flesh right now.

My underwear on, I decided to put on my makeup next. I took my time, getting it just right before using my flatiron tomake my hair smoother than usual, a little less unruly. I put on a thin silver chain and hoop earrings. At the last minute, I decided to put on hot pink lipstick.

Clothes, though. That was hard at first but I again reminded myself I wanted to let Wolf know how important this was to me. I finally settled on a leather miniskirt I’d worn for one of our bigger concerts with Liam and a hot pink tank top that showed off my curves just enough—and matched my lipstick to boot.

Perfect.

When Wolf texted me that he was there, Kyle hadn’t left for work yet. As I walked through the living room, pulling on my coat, he asked, “Where you headed?”

“Just out. Have a good night at work.”

I hoped he wouldn’t be too curious, because if he went out in the hall and walked partly down the stairs, he’d be able to see Wolf’s big black truck outside. I knew it had to be obvious I was doing something special but hoped he’d believe I was walking downtown to karaoke or something else.

When I got downstairs and saw Wolf, all thoughts of Kyle evaporated as the blood in my veins started rushing.

Before I exited the building, Wolf was out of the truck, and he opened the passenger door for me. He couldn’t see what I was wearing under my coat, but he could see my legs in the fishnet stockings I’d decided on at the last minute. “I hope you’re hungry.”
