Page 49 of Verses

There was one song in particular that I knew matched this tune.

So I kept listening for the shifts from verses to bridge to chorus as I looked over some words I’d written not so long ago.Although I had to change it around a bit to match the melody my heart wanted to sing, the song fit.

“I hate to ask you guys…but would you mind starting from the beginning?”

Wolf stopped playing and the other guys quickly followed suit. “No problem…especially if you’re wanting to try out some lyrics.”

I just nodded, looking at the words again and, while Wolf gave the guys a couple of notes, I typed a couple of things on my phone to help me once I got started.

But some of these words…they were already emblazoned on my heart. They were part of my soul.

“Ready?” Adrian asked, ready to cue the guys to start.

Again, I nodded, wanting to save my voice for the song.

When Wolf, Pedro, and Kyle started playing again, the haunting melody filled every hollow space inside me, forcing the lyrics out the only way they could, like a torrential waterfall from my tongue.

I was young.I guess you were too.

But you had the upper hand.

Call you out, I wish I could.

But you left without a trace.

And you left me scarred.

How I wishyou’d thought me dead.

Instead you always haunt my dreams.

Can I go on? Can I live my life?

You will always bea dark mark on my soul.

A dark mark on my soul.

A dark mark on my soul.

I triedto resist but I had no strength.

You made me feel it was my fault.

Call you out, no reason to now.

And you left without a trace.

You left me scarred.

How I wishyou’d thought me dead.

Instead you always haunt my dreams.

Can I go on? Can I live my life?

You will always bea dark mark on my soul.

A dark mark on my soul.
