But we would try to respect his wishes as best we could, hoping that emotions would settle. The longer Kyle and I were apart, the easier it would be for him to deal with it. He just needed time.
If it turned out to be more than that…our band would never make it.
Making sure my voice was louder so I’d be heard, I said, “Okay, cool. Are you guys ready to practice?”
Pedro, ever ready, said, “Hell, yeah.”
The rest of us were too…even though we weren’t quite so enthusiastic. But at least music was the one thing we could all agree on.
As for how things would fare with Kyle, not to mention where my relationship with Wolf would go, only time would tell.
CHAPTER 39
Although the excitement of sneaking around with Wolf was behind us now that our secret was out, I found it didn’t affect the way I felt about him. In fact, I felt a little freer and more relaxed now that I didn’t have to worry about getting caught. That far outweighed any thrill I might have felt from keeping it secret.
Wolf and I spent time together when we could, but it seemed like our schedules made it hard. With me working early mornings and Wolf working late nights, not to mention practicing most afternoons, we had some juggling to do. Fortunately, we had different days off for the most part and that made a little bit easier, especially now that I had a working car. I could spend the night with Wolf and get ready for work, leaving straight from there.
I just had to get in the habit of taking all my stuff. I had a small backpack that I tucked my work clothes in, along with a pair of underwear, makeup, a brush, toothbrush, and toothpaste and I was good to go—but I often forgot to take it on nights when I didn’t have to work the next day.
Late one night, I arrived after he’d gotten home from work. When I came in, I asked, “Why did you park your truck outside?”
“I’m working on my bike right now.” I just nodded, making him widen his beautiful green eyes. “Have you never seen my Harley?”
Taking off my coat, I hung it on the rack. “If riding on it means I’ve seen it…”
“Oh, yeah.”
“But I’ll admit I didn’t pay a whole lot of attention.” I didn’t want to saya bike’s a bike, because I knew how guys felt about their hogs.
“Well, how about I properly introduce you to her?”
“Her?Do I need to be jealous?”
He laughed. “No. I don’t think you do.” As he headed to the garage, I pulled my coat off the rack. “You won’t need that, songbird. The garage is heated.”
Nodding, I put the coat back and followed him to the door in the kitchen that led there. When he flipped on the light switch, I said, “Wow. It looks so much bigger without your truck in here.” And I noticed that, although the garage was warmer than I’d thought, it was a little cooler than inside.
Still…around this man, I’d always feel warm.
His Harley stood proud, smack in the middle of the space. It was a big beast of black and chrome. A couple of my mom’s old boyfriends had ridden motorcycles. One of them had been in a bad accident and I’d been afraid of them ever since.
But if I was honest with myself, the fact that they were dangerous also made them exciting.
It madeWolfexciting.
That slight element of danger, knowing something could happen to him on his bike at any time and he didn’t care—why did that make him seem more desirable? Of course, there was nothing about this man that I didn’t find sexy or intriguing. There was always something about him that would leave me wanting more.
Grinning, I said, “I want to see what you look like on it.”
“You’ve seen me on it.”
“But I want to see it again. I know you’re not going to ride…but I just want to have that picture in my mind.”
With a mischievous smile, he said, “Are you thinking naughty thoughts, songbird?”
“Maybe.”Fucking definitely…especially when he put it that way.
“Then hell, yeah.” Straddling the bike, he put his hands on the handlebars and I walked around, taking in the whole picture. His brown hair slicked back made him look totally badass, and I knew that his helmet wouldn’t be able to hide the smoldering look in his green eyes. Nothing he could do on that bike would diminish how fucking sexy it made him look.
