His words paired with the pain in his voice rock me back in my seat. He still has feelings for me, and he thinks I’m squandering my chance with Sebastian. Why does life have to be this way? I wish I had those feelings for Dax, but I don’t. I never have, and I’m beginning to realize that maybe my heart hasn’t been truly mine in years. I didn’t get over Sebastian. Our romance that never got the chance to blossom, his betrayal in high school. We were never meant to be then, but will my heart ever be free if I don’t at least give him a chance?
Chapter 36
Sebastian
"Whatareyoudoingskulking around in here?" Cole looks up at me from under the dark flop of curls that hangs in his eyes, usual scowl pinching between his eyes.
"Am I not allowed to be in the same room as you? Last I checked I was living here too?"
I drag a hand through my hair knowing I'm being completely unreasonable. Since Cole moved in he's been like a ghost. Skulking through the house when he needs to get in and out. Usually leaving for school or practice before the rest of us. We barely see him. I'm surprised to see him here in the hang out room and now I've probably scared him off. Smooth move. Not sure I trust the guy yet after what I heard happened with his last team, but if we have even one loose cog in the team dynamic it can throw everything off.
"Ignore him." Beau walks in with a smug smirk on his face. "He's just being an asshole because he hasn't gotten laid in a while. Blue balls. You know."
"That’s what you think." I shoot back at him before I think through my words.
"Oh you so did get laid with mystery girl. I knew it. Why are you so crusty then? I would have thought that would ease your pain and maybe turn you a notch closer to human. The old Wizard I knew and loved."
"None of your damn business. Shut your mouth about her."
"About who? Who we talking about?" Dev and Jax come through the door at just the wrong moment leaving the house feeling way too crowded even through I've seen far more people at our parties before. Of course every damn roommate shows up at the exact same time.
I hold up a finger. "Number one, none of you business.” I switch to my second finger and flip my hand around. “And number two, you can you all just fuck off or something?" Their eyes follow me as I pace the living room, but I can't seem to make my legs stop no matter how ridiculous I look.
Dev crosses his arms across his massive chest, frowning at me, while Jackson grins behind him.
"What is your malfunction? Why are you trying to kick us all out of our house. My house." Beau cocks his head to the side. Of course rich boy would bring that up. He’s not usually one to rub it in our face that his parents bought this place that’s way too nice for student jocks to live in, but he’s itching to get punched today.
Jackson darts across the floor and throws the first swing landing it with a thud on Beau’s fancy looking sweater. They end up locked in a battle in the middle of the living room. Cole looks alarmed for a moment half rising out of his seat on the couch before settling back down with a confused look on his face.
By the time the doorbell rings, Beau and Jax have made it to the floor and are rolling around laughing as they try to pin each other down.
“Fuck!” I stare up at the ceiling. Abby’s here, and this place is chaos. I toss my chin at Dev. “Lucy, can you deal with that?” I wave my hand at our friends tussling in the middle of the living room.
The corners of his mouth turn up in a dark smile and he punches a fist in the palm of his hand. “With pleasure.” Man of few words, but lots of punches.
I’m still shaking my head as I pull open the front door.
“Break it up, idiots!” Devlin’s deep voice is a roar as he grabs the two of them by the back of their shirts.
Abby had an uncertain look on her face as I swung open the door that has morphed into I don’t know, terror?
“Is everything ok?”
“Yes just a day in my life. I am eternally sorry for this.”
Jackson pulls out of Dev’s grasp to bound over, while Beau smooths back his wall street hair, and swipes a hand down the front of his sweater.
“Abigail, mildady. Pleasure to see you again.” He grabs her hand, bringing it up to his mouth, and I have to clench my fists at my sides to avoid punching him.
Her laugh sends a warm thrill down my spine. I’m not so thrilled that Jackson is the one who got it out of her, but I am happy to hear it at the same time. The smile dies on her lips when she turns to me.
“Sebastian.” I get the smallest of nods.
“Come on. I thought we could work down here, but I don’t think that’s a great idea now.” She takes a little sidestep when I reach out to grab her hand. Of course. I barely convinced her to come here in the first place to work on our final project. She’s not gonna let me touch her.
I was doubtful, but I can her her soft steps behind me on the stairs so I know she’s not quite ready to flee. It’s a different story when we make it to my room. She pauses in the doorway with a conflicted look on her softly rounded face. The urge to kiss her is strong, but that would not be my best idea.
Her eyes flick around my room, probably remembering the last time we were in here. And now I’m picturing it too. Buried deep inside her warmth, breathy moans in my arm. I shift away as my dick jumps in my shorts. The loose track pants conceal nothing. Should have put my jeans on.
