“Did you sleep well, my angel?” I ask, reaching around her and putting a fresh cup under the machine and pushing the button on the side.
“Dammit. Ialwaysforget.” She sighs, seeing which one I pressed. “Like, how hard can a freaking coffee machine be?” she rolls her eyes at herself.
“Did you?” I ask again. Looking down at her, my arms still wrapped around her even though she hasn’t hugged me back. She pulls her mouth to the side. “Sure. Yes. I slept very well.” She admits as though I’m interrogating her.
I take her arms and wrap them around my waist.
“This is how you greet your husband in the morning, angel.” I grin.
She tries to hide the little giggle that rustles through her, but she doesn’t manage to.
Wrapping my hands around her waist I lift her onto the kitchen counter, away from the coffee machine.
“Also, you are supposed to stay in bed so that I can make you coffee in the morning and kiss you awake with a fresh cup.” I say. “What is this nonsense where you get up before me and I wake up alone?” I hand her the coffee and she sips it.
She bites her lip to hide her smile.
“If I waited for you to get up, I’d be sleeping all day. I don’t have time for that.” She sasses.
“Is that so?” I step close to her, pushing her legs open and taking her face in my hand to kiss her. I can taste the sweetness of coffee on her lips.
“What would you like to do today, my angel?” I ask, mesmerized by her eyes.
“Um - escape a forced marriage and maybe disappearin Mexico so my crazy husband can’t find me.” She replies, her brows raised.
“Oh, sweet little angel, your crazy husband would tear every continent apart to find you. If I had to kill every person on this planet until you were the last one alive - just to find you - that is what I would do.” I say. A promise she doesn’t know I would keep.
She stiffens a little, her fingers tight around the coffee mug. Perhaps she understands a little about how far I would go to have her.
I smile as I watch her. Tracing my fingers over her jaw, I let the pad of my thumb brush across her lips.
“Don’t test me, my angel.” I warn her.
She nods, ever so slightly, almost unnoticeable.
Except I notice everything.
CHAPTER NINETEEN
Neve
Iwoke up a little freaked out.
Celso had his arms around me and to be entirely and utterly honest with myself - it felt amazing. It was like we fit together perfectly. And don’t even get me started on last night.
What the hell was that?
How was it so fucking good?
How is it possible for a man to make me feel that incredible?
I was lying there snuggled against Celso and suddenly I felt too comfortable, too happy - and yes - it freakedme out.
So, I wiggled out of bed without waking him up. I grabbed a t-shirt and hurried down to the kitchen. For a while all I could do is stand there in shock over last night’s experience and how quickly he is winning me over.
I shouldn’t be this easy.
But then I wanted coffee - and because the universe likes to test me at every chance, it can get - the coffee machine is identical to the one Celso has in his home. Our home.
