Attiker’s fingers deftly undid the buttons on Raz’s shirt and waistcoat, and soon he was sliding his hands over bare skin.

Raz growled low in his throat. “You tempt me.” He clasped Attiker’s wrist as it headed for his waistband.

Attiker chuckled softly. “Good.”

Raz gazed at him. “We don’t have to rush this.”

“Who’s rushing?” Attiker smiled and pulled Raz down for another kiss.

It took no time at all until they were both naked. Raz ran his hands admiringly over his bonded’s supine form, following the track of his fingers with his lips, kissing every inch of skin he found until Attiker was hard and leaking. Raz paused his play to get some oil from the table beside the bed and spread some on his fingers, and all the while, Attiker was watching him, lust burning under heavy-lidded eyes. They had a lifetime to explore each other’s bodies, but Raz wanted their first time to be special for his bonded.

He resumed his kissing, trailing his lips down the hair on Attiker’s belly and to his groin. He brought one oiled finger to play gently under his sac at the same time as nuzzling the wiry hair surrounding his cock. Attiker gasped at the double touch. Raz smiled to himself and continued his exploration, cupping his sac while licking Attiker from root to tip and finally tasting the essence dribbling from his tip. He swirled his tongue around the plump head and then slid Attiker’s cock past his teeth, lowering his head as Attiker cried out.

“Raz’mar!”

And his name sounded so sweet on his bonded’s lips. Raz gently pulled back and circled his finger around Attiker’s entrance. Attiker’s hands slid to Raz’s shoulders as if needing the touch.

“You are too good at this. I won’t—”

But Attiker’s words turned into another cry as Raz slid a slick finger into Attiker’s hole. He felt the throb of Attiker’s cock under his tongue and gently scraped the skin a little with his teeth, then sucked the very tip. The pulse under his tongue and the way Attiker’s breath hitched gave him all the warning he needed as he curled his finger to touch the place inside Attiker that drew another cry, and his seed flooded Raz’s mouth. Raz took a few seconds to encourage more, then gentled as Attiker became almost boneless beneath him, and he swallowed. Another gentle lick and Raz pulled Attiker unprotestingly flush with his body.

His breathing eased. The pounding of his heart slowed, and he dropped a kiss on his bonded’s head.

They had so much to sort out. His kingdom was in trouble. The anti-shifters were getting worse, and the last thing Cadmeera needed was another war, especially with its own people. Attiker needed to discover his true worth. Raz didn’t think it was a coincidence they were bonded, and maybe the fates had deliberate plans for them.

But maybe they could take one night before all the madness descended on them tomorrow.

Raz murmured his promise once more to his bonded. Attiker snuggled close and sighed sleepily. Tomorrow would come soon enough, and Raz let his eyes drift closed.

But the furious pounding on his chamber door snapped them back open.

Chapter seven

Attikerjerkedawakeatthe same time as he felt Raz jump out of bed. He’d been drifting. Sex and grief were a strange combination and one he could’ve almost floated in forever, until the noise brought him out of his exhausted cocoon. He knew he should feel bad, but he wasn’t sure what emotions were running through him. Guilt? Although he’d grieved for his ma a long time ago.

He’d lost her years before she actually died.

Then the wordsSalamanderandfireslammed into him, and he was out of bed just as Raz closed the door on whoever he’d spoken to.

Raz grasped his arm to stop him from heading for the door. “There’s a fire. Started in the stables between the Salamander and the tannery. So busy getting the horses free they missed the spark that got the tavern.” He rushed out the words at the same speed as he dragged clothes on, and it was only when Attiker realized he was going to walk out naked that his brain kicked into gear.Shite. His friends.

“Bartholemew?”

Raz shook his head. “Don’t know. Thakeray’s already got men on it.”

Attiker pulled clothes on and followed Raz at a run. He seemed to remember arriving a different way, but they left through the huge ante-chambers, six guards immediately falling in step and surrounding them. He knew the palace was operating on basic staff for the weekend, and—

“Can you ride?”

Attiker blinked. He’d followed automatically, but they were now in the courtyard, and two huge horses were all rigged out, snorting and stamping their feet as the guards mounted up. Attiker could feel himself paling, and clearly, Raz took that as an answer because the prince just about vaulted on the biggest damn horse Attiker had ever seen, gathered the reins, and held out a hand. It was only knowing the speed they had to travel in and worry over his friends that had Attiker clasping it. In a few seconds, he was clutching Raz around his middle and praying not to die.

What in the seven hells had he gotten himself into?

He could smell the fire before he even saw it, and for a confusing second, he wondered if he was asleep and dreaming until he thought of the other thing he had a vague recollection of that had happened that day and shut that thought down right bloody fast. There was no way in seven hells he was a wolf. But then a white wolf seemed to just wander into his mind like it had the right to do just that, and a big black one followed it.

Bugger me.

That was Raz. Alpha Raz or Prince Raz. Well, if they had the same name. Did they? How the seven hells did that even work? And what about his? In his mind’s eye, he would swear the thing was laughing at him.
