Allie stood and rounded the desk to stand in front of him. “If we’re going to restart this on the right foot, I have to apologize, too. I went with my knee-jerk reaction to take care of things myself and didn’t stop to think that maybe it’s okay to lean on someone or to ask for help.” She shifted closer to him, not quite willing to touch him yet, but wanting to. “I was actually calling you today to ask if you’d help set me up with an investor.” She smiled. “I guess we were on the same page, after all.”

Roman took her hands, his expression serious. “If you aren’t comfortable with what Clare is offering, we can find someone else. I’m not going to push you on this. I promise.”

“I’m going to take her offer.” She’d known it the second Clare had made it. As much as it had initially been her dream to own her own business, being the GM wasn’t much of a step down. If she was able to keep control and be assured that all the women who came through her shelter were cared for... It was worth it. It was more than worth it. “Thank you. I’m sorry I didn’t trust you.”

“You have nothing to apologize for.”

She slipped into his arms. “I do have one other thing to say.”

“Just one?” A smile flirted with the edges of his lips.

“I love you, too.” She kissed him, showing him she meant the words, putting everything she felt into the contact. “This might be too soon, and it might be a little crazy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
