“Probably to get that citation Ary threatened them with erased,” Kana said, hoping he didn’t sound sarcastic because he was honestly pleased Diana was helping. Someone with her power and knowledge would be invaluable.

“Yeah, that’s probably it, but Ary’s leaning on them pretty heavily until you’re back up to speed. Anyway, apparently one of the anchors for Channel 7 news fainted live on-air at about the same time Ary tossed holy water on the imp. Our sources in the station said about half the staff suddenly passed out too. They’re calling it a gas leak, and the station’s been shut down while the gas company investigates.”

“What about Beth?” Kana gasped.

Ember gave Kana his beautiful half grin. “Don’t worry. Ary said an imp will steal energy from their victims, but once that connection is broken, the victim just needs to sleep it off. Once we were certain Beth would be okay, we drove her to the hospital, claiming we found her passed out on the side of the road, and we made sure the hospital staff found her work ID so they could connect the dots. Last I heard, she was awake, and her doctors were running a few more tests to make sure she’s okay. She’ll probably be released soon, and Ary said he’ll make sure her medical bills are covered. Apparently, it’s the hunter’s association’s responsibility to do that whenever one of their investigations impacts a member of the innocent public. Word is the people at Channel 7 who were also impacted by the imp have all also woken. You’re the only one we’ve been waiting on,” he added cheekily, although his hand reached out to gently brush Kana’s cheek again in a way that said he had honestly been worried.

Kana leaned into Ember’s hand, wondering how he had managed to win Ember’s heart. For Kana, it had definitely been lust at first sight, but his feelings for Ember had swiftly grown from there. Ember clearly had those same feelings; his eyes were soft and concerned as he gazed at Kana in a way no man had ever looked at Kana before—like he wanted to coat Kana in a protective wrap and tuck him safely away like Kana was Ember’s most-prized possession. And yet, at the same time Ember was an overprotective alpha wolf whose chief drive was to keep his people safe and happy, but he was still willing to step aside and let Kana live his own life. Kana knew all he had to do was reach out a hand and Ember would be there to support him the whole way. A heady feeling, yes, but also a wonderful one.

Mika had shifted to his human form sometime while Kana was lost in Ember’s gaze. He leaned against Ember’s back, his arms draped over Ember’s shoulders so his hands could drift downward, caressing along the lovely defined muscles of Ember’s chest and stomach. His fingers stopped at Ember’s nipples, tweaking them gently, before continuing down to circle Ember’s belly button for a moment, ruffling through the short hairs until he reached Ember’s pajama pants. Ember’s deep-brown eyes darkened as his pupils blew open. Mika licked his lips and grinned.

Sora, ever the bolder of Kana’s two familiars, didn’t bother with foreplay. He climbed onto the bed behind Kana, and his hands immediately dipped below Kana’s waistband, gripping Kana exactly right and stroking until Kana was panting for breath. His other hand shoved Kana’s pajamas down to his knees, and then slick fingers pushed inside. Kana was tighter than usual—too many nights of sleeping off magical exhaustion—but Sora was gentle and thorough, hitting just the right spot over and over as he slowly added fingers and kept stroking Kana from the front.

Kana tried to keep his eyes open so he could watch what Mika and Ember were doing, but every time Sora got him just right, Kana’s eyelids fluttered closed. He vaguely felt Sora turning him around, but did notice when breathing suddenly got harder thanks to Sora’s tongue in his mouth. And then Ember’s familiar heat pressed against his entrance, and slowly pushed inside. They rocked together as Sora helped Kana turn his body to drop to all fours, and then Sora’s length pressed against Kana’s mouth, sliding past his lips to stroke his tongue, and all Kana could do was ride on the overwhelming sensations.

Ember’s fingers were rough in just the right way as he stroked Kana along with every thrust, but he knew better than to bring Kana off with him. Ember’s moan as he came was loud in Kana’s ear, and just the sound almost set Kana off too. Ember pulled out a moment later, but when he moved away, Mika filled his space, quickly thrusting inside and pounding into Kana’s now loose hole. Sora let out a yowling moan a moment later, as he spilled down Kana’s throat, Kana swallowing as Mika slowed to give Kana a chance to catch his breath. When Kana was ready, Mika slid his hands underneath Kana’s chest and pulled him up so his back was pressed to Mika’s chest. He resumed thrusting, and Ember and Sora each took a side of Kana’s now-revealed length and started licking, and only seconds later it was Kana’s turn to moan and come. After a few more thrusts, Mika let out his own yowl.

The four of them collapsed on the bed in a tangle of limbs, panting for breath. Ember managed to get his arms around Kana, although Kana was pretty sure Mika’s arm was caught between them. Sora was draped over them all, purring softly.

Kana relaxed into their embrace, enjoying the fading aftershocks and the comfort of warm arms holding him close. Ember’s soothing breath tickled Kana’s ear, Mika’s warmth surrounded them, and Sora’s body covered them like a gentle blanket. Kana could lay like this forever.

Ember let out a soft growl full of disappointment just seconds before someone knocked loudly on the door, and the peace was immediately shattered. Kana sighed, but untangled his limbs from them all, freeing Ember to get up, locate his pajamas—which had somehow landed across the room—and answer the door.

“Hey, Alpha,” Marc said, apparently unperturbed by the fact that he had woken Ember in the middle of the night.

“Why are you awake, Marc?” Ember asked with a heavy sigh full of resignation.

Marc was…Kana couldn’t think of a better way to describe him other than eccentric. He was twelve years old, his best friend was the extremely powerful and very old vampire Ember had allowed to live with the wolves, and he had issues with listening to directions or common sense.

“I was playing with Shannon,” Marc replied, his voice completely unconcerned that his alpha sounded disapproving. “But then I saw all sorts of headlights going down the street and turning in at the hunter compound. I thought you might want to give them a call and ask what’s up.”

“Thank you for letting me know,” Ember replied simply.

Kana wanted to know just what sort of game Marc was playing with Shannon—and just where they were playing—that had allowed him to see that, and Kana was sure Ember would have words with Shannon about that later, but Ember knew better than to ask Marc.

“Now, go to bed. You still have to go to school in the morning.”

“Aww,” Marc began, but then Ember must have given him a look because he stopped whining and instead said, “Yes, Alpha,” before leaving.

Ember shut the door and walked back to the bed. Rather than climb under the covers, he sat so the pillows were behind him. His legs pressed up against the tangle that was still Kana, Sora, and Mika though. He grabbed his phone off the side table—the light as the screen lit up in the dark room making Kana squint—tapped it for a few moments, and then the sound of a phone ringing through his speakerphone filled the room.

“You keeping tabs on us?” Ary said in lieu of hello, his voice only half joking. “I figured we had at least a few more minutes before someone on your end noticed.”

Ember laughed. “Lucky coincidence. A wolf out of bed, wandering around where he shouldn’t be.”

Ary snickered too. “That sounds like Marc. One day you’re going to have to put a leash on that kid.”

“I’m not sure even that would work,” Ember replied. “Anyway, what’s going on?”

“A warlock is serious business,” Ary said with a heavy sigh. “I reported the incident and our concerns up my chain of command, and they mobilized the troops. So far, we’ve gotten three strike forces and one surveillance team, all of whom I have to figure out how to bed down tonight. First thing in the morning I’m going to brief them about you and the witches being our neighbors and allies, and then I’m going to want to brief them about everything we know so far about the warlock.”

“You might want to mention Shannon to them as well, just in case,” Ember added when Ary paused. “The last thing we need is having a hunter accidentally start a conflict with him.”

“Oh, man. We so don’t want that to happen.” Ary let out a breath. “Okay, I’ll mention you, the witches, and that crazy vampire who is hanging around for some unknown reason, but that probably has something to do with a child alpha-level wolf. I can already tell that’s going to go over well.” He groaned. “Right. I was going to ask you to come over around eleven for the warlock bit, but I have a feeling we might not get to that part on our end until later instead. Why don’t you come over around one, and I’ll ring the witches first thing in the morning to ask them too. Oh, is Kana around?” he added suddenly.

“I’m here,” Kana called.

“Great. Kana, you’ve got the week off work, same as we’d do for anyone who tangled with an imp. We want you to recover and be healthy for the next battle. No more magic, okay?”
