“Yeah. I washed and conditioned your hair and bathed your body. When we were done, I dried you off, put this shirt on you, and then set you on the counter, where I brushed and dried your hair. I knew you’d rest better after a shower. You and I went to bed and slept for seven hours. I had to get up, go out, and check on things, but Randy has everything under control.”

In her wildest dreams, she would never have been in a situation like this.

“You slept with me?”

“Yes. Sweetheart, I was wiped out. I had been up every night trying to find you.” He cupped the side of her face. “I don’t think you realize how frightened I was, and I wasn’t going to rest until I had you home.”

“This is your bedroom?” She glanced around.

“Yes. This is the only bedroom you’ll ever see again unless we travel, but we’ll still be together. Go to sleep. The more you rest, the quicker you’ll be better.”

Eden had so many questions, but he was right. She couldn’t hold her eyes open another moment.

Cain pulled her tight against him. “Sleep, Little Sub.”

She nodded, tucked her head against his shoulder, and slept.

Chapter Sixteen

Cain walked out of one of the barns when someone yelled his name. A cargo van pulled up, and two young women got out and looked around.

A smile grew the closer he got. They both looked so much like their mother. “Hey, girls. It’s nice to finally meet you in person.” He shook both their hands.

“You have a beautiful ranch, Cain,” Madison said.

“Thank you. It’s been in my family for generations,” Cain said.

“Does Mom know we’re coming?” Chloe asked.

“Nope. I wanted to surprise her…”

A gasp and low scream came from the house, and then Eden ran toward her girls.

“Slow down,” he barked.

She did what he ordered, but he could tell it was killing her.

“My babies,” she said and pulled them into her arms. None of them were surprised when she burst into tears. “I’ve missed you so much. How did you get here?”

“Cain,” Madison said. “He rented the van we drove, which by the way is pretty fancy. He also paid for every meal, gas, and hotel.”

Cain almost snorted at the shock on her face. She came to him and stared at him. He waited to see what she’d say but wiped her tears away with his thumb.

“I can’t believe … God, I’ve missed them.” She pressed her hand against her mouth.

“Don’t you think I know that?” he said. “I wanted to do something you’d love, and this was the first thing that popped into my head.”

She wrapped her arms around his waist and hugged himtightly. “Thank you,” she whispered.

“You’re welcome.” He squeezed her one more time before releasing her. When he caught sight of the daughters and saw they had tears on their faces, he almost panicked until they both smiled, and one clapped her hands.

Eden hugged them again. “What’s in the van?”

Chloe grinned. “Another surprise.”

Cain stood back and watched as Eden looked through some of the boxes in the back. Her gasp of surprise made everything worth it.

“You had them bring my things?”
