Fuck. They’ve obviously been torturing him, though Grams didn’t come right out and say that. We have to get him out of there. I stand, looking at the items on the table again. Kadimakes a move to grab me, probably just to see if I’m okay, but I brush him off. Raising my arms, I layer my magic over the items on the table and pull back immediately when something starts trying to suck out my magic.

It isn’t the wand. It’s the letter.

What the fuck? Why didn’t I notice it when I was reading it?

“Grams, I need you to do a search on me and make sure I haven’t picked up a spider. It was the letter. The wand, box, and everything else are safe, but the letter is covered with black magic and it just tried to syphon mine from me.”

I raise my arm again and float the letter to the box and wrap a magic blocking spell around it, just like I did with the death threat. Grams stands and runs her hands down my body and stiffens when she gets to my chest.

“In the chair,” she says.

Dammit, I knew it. This is going to hurt like hell.

Wellthatwas something I never want to see again. It was bad enough watching Ethan go through it but to seeShasta get a spider pulled from her body? I am going to have nightmares about that for a long time. I knew she was safe, her Grams wouldn’t let anything happen to her, but it still doesn’t make me feel any better about what I saw. Shasta’s spider was a lot smaller than Ethan’s though as she had only had hers for a few hours.

Winnie is going to run a locator spell on the letter so we can try to find the place where Shasta’s father is being held. From everything she told us we don’t have a lot of time to get to him. The haunted look in Shasta’s eyes is killing me and Ethan keeps throwing me glances so I know he’s feeling it too.

We get to Shasta’s shop and there is a man leaning on the building next to the door. I hear Shasta gasp and then growl a little bit. Well this isn’t going to be good. Where is our man we had stationed here? He should have called to let us know what was happening.

“Who is that?” Ethan asks.

“Logan,” she says. “My cheating ass ex boyfriend. I have no idea what he’s doing here. I haven’t seen him since I kicked him out two years ago.”

This definitely has something to do with what’s happening then. We get out and both of us instinctively move in front of Shasta, crossing our arms and giving low growls. He’s a human. I can’t even imagine, sassy beautiful Shasta being with someone like this. He smells bad and I immediately realize he smells like dark magic.

Shasta must realize it too because she throws a spell at him, freezing his feet in place almost immediately.

“What are you doing here, Logan? Why do you feel like dark magic?” she seethes at him.

He laughs, low, and hatefully. “I’ve come to extend an invitation to you. My parents would like to invite you to dinner.I thought maybe we could talk about getting back together, but I see you’re in your slut stage these days.”

Ethan steps forward and smashes a fist into Logan's face and blood spurts everywhere. Shasta jumps back. His blood is black and oily. What the fuck. Is this what happens when you mess with dark magic? No wonder they all smell rotten.

“I won’t be going anywhere with you. And as for my ‘slut stage’, these are my mates. My true mates.”

Logan’s eyes widen. Well, well, he must not have seen that coming. I smirk at him and pull Shasta to my side, Ethan coming up on her other side and wrapping an arm around her waist.

Logan sneers at us. “Well, I can see when I’m not wanted. Guess I’ll be leaving now then,” he says.

Shasta releases her magic and he takes a step forward from the pressure. Damn, she had a tight ass grip on him. Every time she uses her magic I’m reminded just how strong our little mate is.

Logan walks toward us and puts a shoulder forward as if he’s going to shoulder check us on his way through. As he does, he makes a grab for Shasta and Ethan and I are on him in an instant, our lions very close to the surface at the danger to our mate. Why he even thought he would be able to get ahold of her with both of us here I’ll never know. But I guess he has to at least tell whoever he is reporting to that he tried.

“Ah, ah, ah,” Ethan says. “You’ll not be taking her anywhere. And before any of you get any ideas, she will have someone from the Club with her at all times. We already know that you have her father, and we will be locating him soon as well. So, expect an impromptu visit from us.” I smell his fear at his words. It makes the already rotten smell worse.

Logan sneers, trying to put on more bravado than he actually feels, and tries to get loose from our hold. We drag him away from Shasta as Ethan and I start pounding on him. By the timewe get done, he’s a bloody mess and Shasta is pulling us off of him and telling us to just let him go.

We step away and I wipe my bloody knuckles on my pants. Ethan and I are both breathing hard. I would’ve killed him right there if it weren’t for Shasta. We don’t usually do our dirty work in public like this. I need to get control of my anger. Shasta being in danger is just too much to handle, though.

Logan scrambles up and falls a couple times trying to make it to his car which is parked just down the street. The little shit was trying to be sneaky in case she was here when he showed up. That pisses me off even more and I take a step towards him. Shasta grabs my arm and just shakes her head.

“He isn't worth it, Kadi. He’s a piece of shit, lying ass, cheater and he isn’t worth any more of our time or energy.”
