“Yes,” my father says shortly.
“What about at the house? Did they leave anything behind or take anything?” Alessandro asks, his brows furrowed in concentration as he seems to be thinking over possibilities.
“No. According to Benjamin the place was trashed, totally ransacked like they were searching for something but maybe didn’t know exactly what for.”
“So, what? This was just some random people that are trying to get one over on the Family? Find some type of black mail or something?” I ask.
Alessandro shakes his head as my dad speaks.
“No, sweetheart. I believe it runs deeper than that. Is there anything that you two can remember about the men that you have come into contact with? Anything at all that would help us figure out who they are?”
“No. I mean, I could try to describe them, but I am not too sure how much that will help. Can we get one of the detectives that we know to give us the names of the guys I took care of at the Jacobson estate? Or the guy on Larimer Road?”
“Yeah, maybe. I will have Benjamin work it personally.”
I am thinking about everything that we have been through over the last two days, about the men who have chased us, the man who grabbed me and…
“Wait,” I say.
Alessandro’s eyes flick over to me questioningly as I glance from him down to the phone.
“A tattoo. The guy that grabbed me had a tattoo.”
Alessandro’s eyes flicker with something dangerous at the reminder of the man before my father speaks.
“What did it look like?”
“It was a snake. It started just behind his ear and worked its way around the back of his neck. It was black ink with red eyes. It was super detailed.”
The air around us becomes deathly silent and we are greeted with the same silence through the phone. Alessandro’s eyes are narrowed at me deep in thought as he takes in my information.
“FUCK!” My father roars.
“Boss? Any reason the Vipers would be breaking into your house?” Alessandro asks.
“Vipers?” I ask.
“A local MC Gang. They are fucking brutal, but we have never been on bad terms with them. We don’t have any bad blood with any of the MC’s actually, at least we didn’t,” Alessandro says as he looks at the phone expectantly.
After a few more silent moments my father lets out a long drawn-out sigh. “I have been looking into them. They have been overstepping a little on our territory, pushing their product. I was digging up some information on them and was going to hold on to it in case they needed extra incentive to back down.”
“You haven’t confronted them yet? How would they have known then?” Alessandro asks.
“That, I don’t know. Only a very select few knew what I was doing. I even kept all of the information stored in a place that no one would ever think to look. Probably why they came up empty handed.”
“Where is it, Boss?”
“Under a floorboard in Seraphina’s room, under her bed.”
I furrow my brows. Instantly feeling extremely uncomfortable that my father was storing Family business black mail inside my room, just under where I sleep. The look on Alessandro’s face tells me he feels the same.
“I found more than I had ever intended to find. They are mainly into human trafficking these days. I found a couple ties that they share with some pretty deep pockets as well. If the information that I have on them was revealed, every member would be put away for 20+ years at least, along with several of their allies.”
We all stay quiet for a moment as we let the information sit in the air. So, not only are we being chased by men for information we don’t even physically have, but they are sex trafficking men with friends in high places. Great.
“You guys will be safe. Just stay at the house. Only Giovanni and I know where you guys are, and it is going to stay that way. Do you guys have enough food?” My father asks.
“Yeah, we are good. I will continue doing perimeter checks just in case, but there weren’t even any cars on the road when we got here. I think we are good, for now,” Alessandro says as he sends me a concerned look.
