A soft knock comes at my door as I stand up and stretch.
“Ready to go sweetheart?” My mother asks as she steps in. “Seraphina, are you just waking up? We need to leave soon!”
“I know, sorry. I overslept. I am jumping in the shower now.”
“Are you all packed?” She asks.
I nod. “Just need to throw in a few last-minute things.”
“Alright, just hurry. Your father and I are going to take your brothers to the jet. I will make sure one of the guys stays behind to drive you. We will meet you there.”
“Okay, Mamma.”
She smiles softly and kisses my cheek before heading downstairs.
I head to the shower and do my best to make it quick, but let’s be honest, a quick shower for me is still a good 25 minutes. Once I am done, I dry off and try to get dressed quickly. I settle on an adorable palm leaf printed short romper paired with some chunky beige wedges. They aren’t exactly practical for traveling, but they are totally adorable and as a Mariano woman, I firmly uphold the infamous saying that beauty is pain.
Throwing some loose waves into my hair I turn my attention onto my make up. Since we are just traveling today, I don’t go too heavy. Instead, I just put on some foundation, mascara and a little bit of highlighter.
Once I am finished with myself, I pull out an empty suitcase and begin filling it since I completely lied and haven’t even begun packing yet. I have a heavy feeling in my stomach as I pack. After this weekend, Aiden and I will be engaged. I mean it isn’t like I would ever say no. We are perfect for each other. I know it and so does everyone else. He loves me and I love him, we just work. I just wish I wasn’t feeling so anxious.
Walking over to my bed, I unplug my phone charger from the wall when strong arms wrap around my waist. I only tense for a second before the familiar scent of Aiden begins to surround me. I feel his lips brush against me before he begins nibbling on my neck.
“I heard someone overslept,” he mumbles against my skin.
I chuckle and shrug before turning to face him, stealing a quick kiss first.
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to.”
“It’s fine, baby. I want this trip to be perfect and stress free for you.”
I smile as I look up at him. He is so amazing. Sometimes I can’t even believe how lucky I am to have him. Why am I even stressing out about this? Marrying Aiden will probably be the best thing to ever happen to me.
Aiden begins to close the distance between us again when a sharp knock sounds from the doorway. I look over to see Alessandro in his standard black suit with a white dress shirt and crisp black tie. It is what all of the men wear but for some reason Alessandro seems to be able to wear it better than any of the others. He is a total fucking asshole, albeit a good-looking asshole.
His face is impassive as he keeps his eyes locked on mine, dismissing Aiden’s presence altogether, apparently.
“The Boss called. Senator Ferguson is asking for his son to come immediately.”
“I will be done as soon as I can,” I say as I walk over to my dresser.
“Senator Ferguson’s son is being requested immediately,” Alessandro repeats, like we didn’t hear his robotic announcement the first time. I roll my eyes as I continue grabbing the bathing suit that I got from Milan last year.
Aiden sneers as he turns to fully face Alessandro. “I have a name. We both know you damn well know it.”
Alessandro’s eyes move from me to Aiden before narrowing. “I’d watch how you speak to me. I don’t work for you or your daddy, Ferguson.”
“But you work for my girlfriend’s father, who happens to love me, in case that wasn’t obvious. I don’t think basic respect is too much to ask for.”
Alessandro scoffs and shakes his head as he looks at him which only seems to anger Aiden more.
“What is your problem, man?” Aiden seethes with clenched fists at his side.
“I don’t have a problem. I got laid last night. Can you say the same with the little virgin Princess over there?”
My face blanches before embarrassment rises inside of me. How does he know that we haven’t slept together? I mean, obviously he doesn’t. Everyone knows that my father expects me to stay pure for marriage, what catholic family doesn’t want that, right? Suddenly the thought of Alessandro sleeping with some girl just last night has my stomach rolling in disgust. He is such a pig.
Alessandro is just fishing though. He is trying to upset us both, and it is working. Aiden’s eyes narrow and he takes a menacing step towards Alessandro. In the next moment his phone rings, stopping him in place.
