“You’re welcome,” I say, continuing to smile. She just laughs and shakes her head at me.
“You look beautiful, sweetheart. And I will admit in this one instance, yes. I agree with your decision. You improved it.”
The smile that touches my lips is wide and full of pride. My mother is a fashion icon across the world, but I am without a doubt her biggest fan. My grandmother was a well known designer as well so my mother followed in her footsteps and one day my name will be the biggest yet.
My father is still frowning, and he looks like he is about to say something when my mother pinches his arm and nods towards the door. He grits his jaw and turns on his heel, stalking out of the house with my mother’s hand in his. She tosses me a wink and I give one back to her as Antonio, Mateo, and I follow after them.
My mother, father and Mateo head to their car where Freddy and David are waiting with the doors open. Antonio and I head for my usual car and there I see Seth and Drew standing outside on either side of the doors. The passenger side window is rolled down and it isn’t hard for me to spot Alessandro’s stone like expression as he watches Antonio and me.
Quickly pulling my eyes away from him, I turn back to see Antonio do some guy handshake thing with Seth before he climbs into the third row as Seth slides into the middle row. Drew is still holding the door open for me, a rare smile on his face as he watches me carefully.
“Evening little flame, you look incredible,” he murmurs softly before leaning in and dropping a kiss to my cheek.
Most of the men wouldn’t ever dare to touch me but I have known Drew for over 10 years so he is practically family. I give him a soft smile as he leans back and squeeze his hand while he helps me into the SUV.
“Thank you, Drew. You look very handsome tonight,” I say as my eyes roam over his perfectly polished suit.
He bows his head, that rare smile still on his face before he shuts my door and gets into the front seat. I cross one leg over the other before buckling my seatbelt. A stifled groan sounds beside me, and I cock a brow in question as I turn to Seth who is currently biting his lower lip.
“Shit, Trouble. How did the Boss let you out in this dress? Every man is about to be uncomfortably hard all night.”
Lighting quick hits come from both Drew and Alessandro while Antonio groans, “That is fucking gross, bro.”
I look towards the front seat to see two dark glowers trained on Seth.
“Keep your fucking mouth shut,” Alessandro grits before his eyes flick to me, only briefly, as he turns to face forward and fires up the car.
Drew keeps his narrowed eyes on Seth for a few more seconds before he shakes his head and rolls his eyes, looking over to me with an almost worried look on his face. Like he thinks Seth could actually offend me. But I have known Seth just as long as I have known him, he is nothing but a big flirt who loves to get a reaction from people.
“Sorry,” Seth says with a mirth filled smirk.
I swear he lives to rile everyone up around him. They all know if anyone else would have said anything like that and my father found out, they would be in a shallow grave. Alessandro and Drew try to keep him in line for his own sake but that mouth of his is going to get him into trouble one day.
I roll my eyes with a small smile before I look out the window as we begin driving down the road. About 30 minutes later, we are pulling up to the stone steps of the hotel where the event is being held. Like a well-oiled machine, the car is parked, and Drew makes quick work of stepping outside and checking his surroundings, as does Seth on the other side. I glance back to my parent’s car as the men are doing the same for them.
When everything is deemed all clear, Drew opens my door and holds out his hand for me. I take it and smile as I lift up my skirt slightly so that I can step outside before taking only a few steps to the side so that Antonio can come out.
Antonio unfolds himself from the SUV and comes to stand next to me, taking my arm into the crook of his elbow as we begin walking up the stairs. Seth and Drew are behind us every step of the way while Alessandro goes to park. Despite keeping my head forward like I should, I peek over my shoulder to see Alessandro still idling at the curb. His eyes firmly on me. He is getting farther away with each step I take, and it is too dark to see well anyways, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t notice that his eyes never waiver from me, not once.
Breaking our staring contest, I turn to face forward as we step through the lobby and make our way into the ballroom. The double doors are open and soft music is playing in the background while socialites and politicians buzz around the room. It only takes me a few moments to find Aiden and when I do, he is already making his way towards us, his eyes lit up with a wide smile across his handsome face.
Antonio releases my arm as Aiden comes up to us, clapping Aiden on the shoulder in greeting as he swaggers off to a group of young heiresses eyeing him hungrily.Gross. Aiden takes my hand in his as he pulls me in for a very appropriate and disappointingly short kiss. When he pulls away, he leans down to my ear, his lips brushing against the shell of it.
“You look absolutely sinful. How am I supposed to focus on anything with you in this dress? Do you realize how many fights I am going to have to get in tonight just to keep you away from the vultures?”
I let out a light laugh as he pulls away and kisses my cheek before sliding my hand into his.
“I’m sorry. I could go find something else if you like?” I tease as I take a half of a step back like I have a change of clothes in the car.
His arm quickly wraps around my waist as he hauls me into his side and practically growls into my ear.
“Not a chance.”
I smile up at him, my heart squeezing as I see the pure love and adoration in those melted chocolate eyes. It doesn’t take long for my parents to come into the room. I don’t even have to look to know that they are here. The conversations in the room quiet softly and everyone seems to stand a little higher, all of their eyes fixed on the doorway.
My parents are practically the power couple of New York. My father being one of the most equally powerful and dangerous men paired with my mother who is a worldwide fashion icon. There isn’t a person in this room who isn’t desperate to be in their good graces. It was always funny to think of them as these important people growing up but now that I am older, I get it. They hold this air of confidence, this power, as they walk into the room. They have this way about them that has everyone respecting them in some way, whether they want to or not.
My father comes up to us and nods towards Aiden. “Good to see you, Aiden.”
