I blush harder now, his knowing gaze smiling at me like he is dying to hear the words slip from my lips.

“Yeah, well, I could say the same,” I say lamely.

“No denying that,” Aiden says as he gives me a heart stopping grin before winking at me.

I duck my head to the side to compose myself and hopefully get rid of some of the flush in my cheeks that I can physically feel. When I look back, Aiden is still smiling at me before his look becomes a little more serious.

“So, what now? Are you going to call him? Figure out why he was such a dumbass to stand a goddess like you up?”

My smile falls instantly at the reminder of Alessandro as I cross my arms across my chest.

“Why should I? He stood me up. Obviously, he doesn’t care about me as much as I thought he did. Why should I sit around pining for someone who clearly doesn’t want me the way I want them?”

Aiden nods thoughtfully as he looks at me before he scoots a little closer and cups my face. Electricity shoots across my skin at the contact and I find myself involuntarily closing my eyes to revel in it. When he speaks though, my eyes flash open.

“You shouldn’t. You deserve so much more. You deserve someone who will part the seas for you, go to war for you, someone who will protect you and your heart fiercely.”

My breath hitches at his words and the passionate flare that is sparking in his melted chocolate gaze.

“Are you trying to tell me that you could do all of those things for me?” I whisper, biting my lower lip gently.

His eyes flick down to track the movement before he looks up to me and gives me a soft smile before he leans in a little closer.

“If I was lucky enough to get the chance, I would do my best.”

His eyes flick down to my lips once more and I am suddenly dizzy with the realization that I want him to kiss me. I always imagined Alessandro being my first kiss, my first everything. But tonight, he showed his true colors, he showed where I am as a priority in his life and Aiden is right, I deserve better.

So, I glance up at this handsome man who is whispering all the right words to me with a kind smile and honest eyes. I can feel in my heart that he means every word and as he leans in closer, I know that I have to feel his lips against mine, I am desperate for it.

When his soft pillowy lips brush against me, my breath catches in my throat. The feeling that goes ripping through my body catches me by such surprise that I almost try to pull away, but Aiden doesn’t let me. His hold on my face tightens slightly as he keeps me close to him, his lips gently pressing against mine, like he is trying to draw out this kiss for as long as possible.

I let a soft sigh escape me as he pulls away before resting his forehead against mine. His grin is wide and brilliant as he looks down at me. My heart is thudding wildly as I look into those warm gooey eyes and in this moment, I am not sure I have ever felt happier.

Chapter Five

Seraphina

2 years later

I smile thinking about my 18th birthday. It definitely wasn’t the night I thought it was going to be, but it was a good one all the same. If it wasn’t for Alessandro blowing me off, I never would have met the amazing man next to me. I wouldn’t have spent the last 2 years dating someone who treats me with respect, who cherishes me and who isalwaysthere for me.

Aiden looks over at me, a sly grin on his face as he pulls his arm around my shoulders closer, bringing me in to meet his lips. I happily tilt my head up to allow him easier access as he brushes his lips against mine.

Ever since the night we met he has been everything and more than I could have dreamed of. My parents love him, and his parents love me. His father is Governor Ferguson, and his mother is a high-power defense attorney. We are actually all going on vacation together to Hawaii in two weeks along with the Cordova’s, well except for one.

Despite me being slightly hesitant of us dating at first since I was still reeling from my heartache over Alessandro, Aiden was patient, kind and amazing. It didn’t take long for him to convince me to be his girlfriend and ever since that first night he has held true to his promise and treated me nothing short of a queen.

“Hey, where did you go?” Aiden asks, pulling back and cupping my cheek lovingly.

“Sorry. I was thinking about the night we met. Our first kiss.”

He grins as his thumb softly strokes my skin. “That was a very good night.”

Pulling me back towards him, his lips find mine once again. We are sitting on a couch in his parent’s movie room after we had dinner with them. Aiden has a condo on park avenue that is stunning, but he spends probably just as much time here as he does at his place. He is just as close with his family as I am with mine, which makes it that much easier when we are all together.

Trailing his lips away from mine, he begins brushing them across my cheek and down my neck. I arch my neck and sink into his touch as his hands run up and down the sides of my navy-blue lace dress. It falls just a few inches above my knees and Aiden makes quick work of finding my exposed skin.

His fingers graze against my thigh before slowly skimming up. The movie playing in front of us is quickly forgotten as Aiden brushes against the edge of my black silk panties. My breath catches in my throat and Aiden pauses his assault on my neck before giving me that panty melting grin of his that I first fell for.
