“Thanks again. Take care.”

“You too!” The wife smiles brightly as I close the door.

They watch us for a few moments before they pull out of the parking lot and head on their merry way again.

“So, what now?” Seraphina asks, her bright eyes filled with concern.

I can tell that she is scared, how could she not be? She literally just found out that the person she thought she was going to spend her life with tried to have her killed, several times now. They came close a few of those times too.

Who is to say that Aiden is working alone though? My money is on mommy and daddy being more behind this than anything. Aiden doesn’t exactly strike me as a man with a plan, especially not one of this magnitude. He is a pretty face that goes where he is told and says what he is instructed.

“We are going to get a car and then we are going to go to my place,” I say as I wrap my arms around her.

Her arms wind around me, and she just holds me for a minute before looking up at me. “Is that really a good idea? I mean, won’t they be waiting for us or something?”

I cock a brow. “Bella, they think we are dead. I doubt anyone is going to be snooping around my apartment, not yet at least.”

Her lips purse in what looks like concern. I can’t help but lean down and capture her lips with mine. She instantly gives in to me, and I waste no time tasting every inch of her mouth. She flicks her tongue gently against mine which sends a rumbling growl tearing through my chest. I pull away and shake my head.

“We need to get going so that I can get you into my bed as soon as possible.”

Seraphina gives me a mischievous grin as she slowly licks her lips. “Now that is a plan that I can get behind.”

I groan and shift my stance, adjusting my jeans before taking her hand and walking through the parking lot. I have to stay focused, but how could anyone when they have a woman like Seraphina at their fingertips?

We walk through the parking lot for a little, trying the occasional door handle. I could obviously break in easily but the less attention we draw to ourselves, the better. After several locked cars one door clicks open. I stop Seraphina and glance around discreetly before opening it more. I look in the backseat to see that it is empty before I face Seraphina.

“Go around. Be casual.”

She nods and walks to the other side like it is just another day while I open the steering box and begin working on getting the car started. I learned how to hotwire cars years ago and I have never been so thankful for the skill until these last few days.

When the quiet hum of the motor sounds through the car, I quickly hop into the driver’s seat and back out. The car is silent for a while. Seraphina’s hand is tucked securely into mine and she couldn’t extract it, even if she wanted to. She looks at me with a soft smile.

To most, they would just see a pretty girl with a stunning smile. But I see the love of my life, smiling at me with all of the love and devotion in the world. It is the kind of smile that makes it hard to breathe, the kind that digs through my chest and grabs my formidably stone heart, cracking the hard shell until I am putty in her hands. I would do anything to see that smile aimed at me for the rest of my days.

Seraphina eventually drifts off to sleep and I can’t help but let a smile of my own touch my lips. She is so beautiful when she sleeps. She looks exactly like one of those princesses in the movies she used to make me watch over and over again. And by make me watch, I mean that I willingly put on anything she wanted. Anything to make her happy, that’s how it always was for me. Until it wasn’t.

My smile starts to fall as I begin to think over the enormous distance that I created between us over the last few years. I thought I was doing the right thing, setting the person I love free and all of that bullshit. Clearly it was the wrong move and now that I finally have her, I will do anything to protect her, to protect us. Even if that means I have to break a few necks in the process.

Chapter Twenty Seven

Alessandro

After hours of driving, we finally pull up to my apartment complex. I quickly pull into my parking space before killing the car and turning towards the still sleeping Seraphina. I smile and rub my hand against her cheek. She lets out a soft little moan that has a direct line to my already stiffening cock.

“Wake up, Bella,” I say gently.

Her eyes flutter open and instantly find mine. She smiles before stretching her arms, looking around the parking garage.

“Oh wow, we are already here?”

I nod as my eyes do a quick check around us, grabbing the bag from the back before I get out and walk to the other side to grab Seraphina’s door. She dips her head in thanks and I take her hand to help her out of the car. Obviously, she doesn’t need any help, but I will never not take an opportunity to touch her.

Once she is out, I shut her door and lock the car before intertwining our fingers. My head swivels constantly, checking our surroundings just in case, as we make our way into the elevator. We go up a few floors before we get to my apartment door. I release Seraphina’s hand to grab my keys, thankfully one of the only things that I have managed to keep with us through all of this shit.

I open the door and gently push it forward to reach for the light, but something stops me, slamming my hand to the wall. I grunt as a heavy fist lands perfectly to my stomach with the combination of one to my face. I begin trading blows with my attacker, but the room is practically pitch black, so it is a little hard to get my bearings. One hit lands directly against my temple, causing me to see stars. Seraphina screams my name, and it seems to surprise my attacker.

“Alessandro?” A familiar voice asks.
