Alessandro’s eyes slowly flick between mine, his handsome smile still perfectly in place before his eyes flick down to my lips. They stay there for half a second longer than normal and the act alone sends my heart racing in my chest. Is he thinking about kissing me? Does he want to?

Oh my gosh! Am I about to get my first kiss, finally?

I watch as Alessandro’s smile slowly slides off of his face and his eyes come up to meet mine, an intense look shining in them as his face inches just a little closer to me. His breath softly tickles my lips as he hovers over me. It would be so easy to lean up and press my lips against his. I sit there and will myself to do it, but I am scared. My stomach dips in anticipation when his eyes flick down to my lips one more time before he closes his eyes.

This is it!

“Seraphina! Alessandro!” My father booms across the property.

As if we have been suddenly dunked into ice water, Alessandro’s eyes fly open and he practically leaps off of me, acting like just touching me is a deadly sin. His breathing is ragged as he looks at me with wide confused eyes. I slowly stand up and take a step closer to him, but he takes one back in return.

“Come on,” he says breathily. “Dinner is probably ready.”

I do my best to hide my disappointment, but I know that I don’t succeed as I trail after him. I tried to loop my arm through his like I do sometimes, but he casually pulled out of it so that he could stretch his arms. I could tell that he was faking though. He is trying to pretend that he didn’t almost kiss me. I am sure he hopes that I will just forget it. But I can promise, I will never forget this moment, ever.

A ringing shakes me out of my daze. My eyes flick over to see a phone in Alessandro’s hand. Where did that come from? He glances at it briefly before scoffing and silencing it as he tosses it into the center console. Silence descends around us before the phone begins to ring again. Alessandro reaches over and silences it again. And then again. By the fourth time he looks downright unhinged. Grabbing the phone, he tosses it to me roughly.

“Answer it before I toss it out the fucking window,” he snarls.

Confused, I slowly hit accept and hold the phone up to my ear.

“Hello?”

“Baby! Oh my gosh I have been so worried about you. Are you okay?” Aiden rambles.

Guilt settles in my stomach that I didn’t try harder to contact him last night. To be fair though, I wasn’t in the best head space, all things considered.

“Hey. I am okay. Are you?”

“Me? I am fine. We got to the resort a little while ago. Your dad and mine are working on plans to get us home to you.”

“Is that safe?” I ask.

“I don’t care. I need to be with you. If they can’t figure their shit out soon, I am coming to get you myself.”

I smile softly. Always my knight in shining armor.

“So, what happened? I tried to talk to you last night, but that dick wouldn’t let me talk to you.”

“He wouldn’t?” I ask as I look at Alessandro, my brows furrowing.

When did Alessandro ever even have a phone until now? The broken pieces of what could have been a phone in the hotel room come to mind, but what happened between whatever phone call he clearly had, and it being destroyed?

Alessandro doesn’t look at me, but I can tell that he is listening. Based on how loud Aiden is shouting, I am sure that he can hear every word too.

“No. Are you okay? Has he hurt you? I swear to God if he has touched you, I will end him!”

“Whoa, whoa. Settle down. Of course, he hasn’t.”

“Okay,” he says as he takes a deep breath. “I am sorry. I am just freaking out over here. I am literally an entire ocean away and the love of my life is in danger with a fucking asshole as a bodyguard and I have no way of getting to her. I would do anything in this moment to be with you.”

“Well, you said I deserved someone who would part the sea for me,” I say with a soft smile, hoping I can calm him down a bit since he sounds practically neurotic currently.

Aiden laughs softly and I can practically hear the smile on his face as the tension begins to leave his voice.

“Believe me, I am trying.”

I smile and think about how hard he undoubtedly is working to get to me. If the roles were reversed, I am sure I would be losing my mind. Closing my eyes, I can almost see his warm smile as he looks towards me, I can almost feel his strong arms as they wrap around me comfortingly.
