“It’s okay, I am clean and am on birth control,” she says with a small smile.
“I am clean too,” I say as I blow out a breath.
She nods and places another sweet kiss on my lips before leaning back into the now tepid water. I can’t believe we didn’t use a condom. That is something I never forget, even in the heat of the moment. Everything is different with her though. When I am around her all rationale and logic that should be common sense goes out the window. All I know for sure is this woman is my future, my forever. She always has been. I am never going anywhere again, and I won’t be letting her either.
After we get out of the shower, I head to my office to make a few calls while she gets dressed.
“Mario, what the hell is going on out there? Where are those Farelli fucks!” I shout. It’s been 4 days since the attack, and we still have nothing. They have disappeared into the cracks and crevices of the city without a trace. How is that even possible?
“We haven’t found them yet Boss. But our men are still out there searching. We won’t stop till we do.”
“Damn right you won’t!” I bite back. “What about that warehouse they just purchased a few months ago on Messer?”
“Checked it myself Boss, it’s completely empty.”
I let out a frustrated growl and go to pour a drink. We have to find them, the longer it takes for us to find them the farther away they could get.
“Find them!” I bark before hanging up the phone and dialing my next call.
“Gio, where the fuck are you?” I bark.
“Pulling up now Boss,” he responds calmly.
“Good answer.”
I hang up and within a minute Gio is walking into my office. He looks haggard and disheveled. His black hair is standing up straight in the front and he has deep dark circles under his eyes.
“You look like shit,” I state with a bored tone.
“We have a problem,” he says, dropping into the seat across from me.
“No shit! How have they stayed off our radar for days already? We can’t even find one of them!” I roar.
I jump to my feet and kick the side table in the corner causing it and the lamp on top to crash to the ground, shattering to pieces.
Gio doesn’t even flinch. He knows when I am truly enraged nothing helps more than breaking some shit and since I am sure he doesn’t want me to take it out on his face, he waits quietly for me to speak again. I take a few ragged breaths before I calm down enough to utter words again.
“We have to find them Gio. I know everyone is doing what they can, but it isn’t enough. Not only for revenge purposes but for the safety of all of us and our families. The Farelli have proven themselves unstable just in the way they have slaughtered our men. Can you imagine what they would do to our wives and children? That is not something I will have over my head.”
My voice is even and calm, but the urgency pours through every word. His eyes were somber and defeated when he walked in, but the fire inside has reignited as he nods intensely.
“You are right Boss. We will keep looking. Someone has to show up eventually.”
I walk around the desk and clasp his shoulder gripping it tightly. “Thank you for your loyalty brother,” I say sincerely.
He nods quickly and exits as I walk back to my seat and drop into it. I throw back the drink I poured in one go and sit there, thinking.
How could the entire Farelli family just disappear? They have nowhere to go that we haven’t already raided and or destroyed. The only answer that keeps ringing in my head is that they have help on the outside. I just hope to God that I am wrong.
Chapter Fifteen
Ashlynn
A few days go by with not much change. The house is more quiet than normal as I make my way down the stairs heading for the kitchen. I guess everyone is probably still looking for the men that attacked us. It's been one week since the attack now and everyone around seems to become more on edge with each passing day. Luca told me there is another rival family that is trying to encroach on their territory and have been making increasingly threatening attacks. Now they have somehow managed to vanish in to thin air. How is it possible for over 40 men to just disappear into thin air?
Luca has left the house a couple of times, trying to track them down but he is never gone for more than a couple of hours before I call him and ask him to come home. I know that I am being ridiculous and that he has to deal with things, but I am so terrified that he will never come back once he leaves.
I am not naïve; he is The Boss of the Mariano family. I know danger comes with the lifestyle. But it doesn’t mean I am okay with losing him just as we have found our way back to each other.
