“Once we found out you were pregnant from that low life thug I thought this deal was as good as over. But thankfully Andrew, being the great man he is, has decided to overlook this under one condition.” Andrew practically preens at the compliment like he really is some saint.
“How did you even find out I was pregnant? I only found out yesterday.”
“We have a mutual friend,” my father says cryptically.
“You mean a mole,” I throw back. He just shrugs. “Well, what is the condition?”
I hate the words escaping my lips because I am afraid that I already know what he is going to say. My father gives me a pointed look that confirms my fears. Fear rips through me as I let out a strangled sob. Tears begin to pour down my face as my breathing quickens and my pulse races with panic.
I see through my bleary vision that my father looks bored with my display of emotions while Andrew has a wicked smile on his face. I know I won’t gain any help or sympathy from them. I frantically flick my gaze to the doctor as he starts to pull out horrific looking tools, setting them on the table next to me. A couple of men come next to me and start untying my wrists and feet.
“No, no, no, no, no. Please! Please!” I wail. Once the men have me untied, they begin to lift me up to carry me over to the table. I thrash wildly in their arms, hoping to get free or at least detain them. “Stop! Please!” I screech.
They begin to tie me down again but on the table this time. The cool metal biting my bare legs as I am pinned down under a calloused hand and bound by a leather strap. I try as hard as I can to hit, scratch and kick the men but all of my efforts are wasted. They fasten me down as I look at the doctor. His expression is brimming with sorrow and I can tell he is being forced here as much as I.
“Please,” I whisper. “Please don’t take my baby from me.”
Fat tears roll down my cheeks as I beg him to spare my child. He just closes his eyes and turns away from me as he continues grabbing things out of his bag.
“I need her undressed,” the doctor says in a shaky tone.
“With pleasure,” Andrew purrs as he saunters over to the table and removes my panties. Unfortunately, I didn’t have more clothes on at the house. Still, having this man touch even one piece of clothing is so disgusting it’s unbearable. His eyes are hooded as he licks his lips and stares at me. I shudder and close my eyes tightly, turning my head away. When I open my eyes, I meet my father’s hard gaze.
“Daddy, please,” I whisper. “If you ever loved me, you won’t do this to me.”
He lifts his nose in the air as his eyes remain impassive. “Your mother is the one that wanted a baby. I for one never cared all that much for you.”
His verbal barb doesn’t even hurt. That information is not really anything new to me. He has proven that what he says is true my entire life. He dealt with me to keep my mother happy and when she was gone, he began making plans to get what he could out of me.
I turn my head the other way, away from my father as tears continue streaming down my face. My sobs have quieted now but that doesn’t stop the shattering of my heart. I can’t believe it. Luca might really be gone. Wouldn’t he have been here by now otherwise? And now my baby will be gone. The only two people in the world left who mattered to me. One thing is for sure, I won’t be leaving this warehouse a person. I will be nothing more than a hollow shell of someone who use to be alive and in love.
My face is expressionless as I focus on a crack in the wall across the warehouse, trying to block out this reality as much as possible. Though I know this moment will haunt my nightmares forever.
Suddenly I hear gunfire from outside and whip my head around quickly.
“What the hell is that?” My father demands, looking to Farelli.
A man comes through the doors from outside and is hustling over to us. When he walks into the light I gasp. Mario comes up to Farelli.
“We have a problem. Luca and 8 others are outside hammering the hell out of your men. They won’t be able to hold them off for long.”
“It was you!” I shout, anger coursing through me. “You were the mole!”
He lifts a brow and a half smirk at my outburst. “Very good, you aren’t nearly as stupid as you look.” Then he turns back to Farelli. “You swore if I got Luca vulnerable you would take care of him. How many more fucking chances do I need to give you? Clearly you can’t hold true to your word.”
Then Mario removes his gun from his waistband and blows a chunk out of Farelli’s head. I yelp in surprise and I see several of Farelli’s men inside the warehouse tense, with their hands on their guns. They must think better of avenging Farelli because they quickly move their hands away and relax, leaning back against the walls. Mario turns and looks at my father and Andrew. “Know how to shoot?”
“Of course not!” My father barks out as if the very idea is appalling. Mario rolls his eyes at him and hands Andrew a gun.
“Go stand in the shadows over there. When Luca gets close to her, shoot him, and don’t fucking miss.”
Soon everyone retreats into the dark corners of the warehouse and it appears like I am the only one in here. It’s a trap. The moment Luca steps foot in here he will be blindsided, and there is no way I can warn him.
Chapter Twenty Three
Luca
When we pulled up to the warehouse, we killed the lights and hid our car away from the entrance behind the tall shrub bushes on either side of the gate. There were about 20 men standing outside, walking the perimeter. We had 8. We beat worse odds tonight though. I thought for sure that we were done for at the roadblock, but I forget what a great team Gio and I make. We were able to pluck the guys off one at a time till only a couple remained and then we were able to get close enough to finish the last few off. It was actually a good thing we came across them. They had a shit ton of guns and ammo in their cars, so we were able to wipe them out and add to our ever-growing arsenal.
