“You shouldn’t have done that,Chispa.” My hands move under her and grab hold of the nape of her neck. “Now, you’re just begging to be loved and fucked thoroughly. You’re never going to be the same after tonight. If you thought you were going to sleep tonight, think again, my love.”
That was all the warning Esme got before I switched it up on her and showed her what it means to be my wife. Something she’s always wanted and acted like I couldn’t tell.
Chapter28
Esme
When I toldMarín that I wanted to throw a pool party for his family before they left, I didn’t know two things. One, we’d have it at “our” house since he had my stuff moved into his house while we were at the wedding. Two: He’d throw it the very next day.
Delgados are all around, I meantios, tias, and primos, the house cooking things for a dish calledCasado. It means married or wedding…one of them. Anway, it’s supposed to be good luck for the bride and groom to eat it sometime around their wedding. I didn’t know about the tradition or I would have served it at the wedding.
Man, I'm tired. That man’s energy and tongue are lethal. I shiver at the memory of how he played with my body…this morning, I should say. I yawn and my eyes droop but Zoya nudges me. I give her a megawatt smile because I haven’t seen her in years and although she’s my cousin, she’s more of a sister. Her coloring is closer to Imalas which amuses me because they’re damn near the same age.
I pull her into a tight hug like I drunkenly did at the wedding. “I still can’t believe you’re back.”
She sighs and looks at me with sad eyes. “I can’t believe I’d gone so remote that I missed all the weddings and the birth of my baby cousin/nephew.”
Zoya’s parents died when she was younger and since my dad was the most like his brother, he took her in and raised her as his own. She still struggles with an orphan sometimes so to make her happy he allowed her to go abroad and not have to pick up any Founders kids duties if she didn’t want to do so. Now that she’s here, I’m not sure if she’s saying or not.
“I’m moving back,” she tells me as if she heard my thoughts.
“Good, because we missed you,” I confess.
“Sorry, I have to say this once so please don’t fight me.” She takes a deep breath and I wait, not sure what she’ll say. “Damn, your husband is fine.”
I break out laughing because I was thinking the worst most devastating things when she paused.
“That’s how I got into this mess. He hijacked my hand in marriage and I was too dickmatized to get out of it.”
“When I saw the invitation I said, ‘Not playa Esme getting married!’”
We both laugh as Karessa and Imala approach. Imala looks just as tired as me because although Karessa and Oran sneaked out around midnight, Imala and Wyn goofy asses shut down the party with us. They hug Zoya and settle on the pool chairs with us. We don’t say anything because Desi walks by looking baseball thick in a tank top and board shorts.
“You would think with our husbands we’d be tired of looking at handsome men…” Imala starts but doesn’t finish her sentence since Desi is testing the water.
“Desi?” I call out so my sister can breathe again.
His head pops up and he flashes a million dollar smile. “Si, mamita?” He walks our way and stops with his hands on his hips.
“How are y’all not tired?” I ask because I could take a great nap right now.
He shrugs and laughs it off. “It’s the Tico way. I’m also half Puerto Rican so twice the fun.”
I try to ignore his natural flirtiness. Geesh even the men who come out of the Delgado women are a handful.
“And your name…” Imala prompts.
His dimples poke out when he responds. “Desi is short for Desiderio. Do you know whatDesideriomeans?” He asks as he takes off his shades.
“No,” we answer in unison.
“It means yearning, desired, and wanted. Some even say sorrow.” He shrugs. “It all points to me being passionate.”
He winks at Zoya but she swallows her giggle when she sees her boyfriend approaching. Lee, as she calls him, is not quite as bubbly as Dallas but he is leading-male-on-Hallmark chipper. He’s resident of the island, another top fiver since his parents have an entertainment group and therefore owns on the major movie theaters on the island and some internationally.
With his blonde hair, sunny smile, and glasses. He’s the kind of guy who is attractive but isn’t aware of it. He shakes hands with Desi before he leans over and kiss Zoya.
“I’m so happy you decided to stay.” They met abroad when he was setting up another theater he moved back in the last year and they’ve been long distance for a bit. “I just wanted to stop by and see you. I have to work.”
