My frown deepens as she and Karessa look at each other. “Posh and sparkly,” they agree in unison.

I can’t complain because I do love some bling but that’s not where this conversation is supposed to go right now.

“That’s the takeaway, heifers?”

Karessa shrugs as she smiles at me. “I’ve seen you ghost guys plenty of times to know that Marín is under your skin. You don’t just debate and argue with men on normal days. The fact that you two are trolling each other is more dedication to any piece of relationship you’ve ever shown.”

“Agreed,” Imala adds.

“Wow, y’all are supposed to be on my side.”

“We are.” They laugh for speaking at the same time.

“I’ll organize a very glamorous wedding for two high energy people,” Karessa promises.

I throw a stack of tulle at Karessa and walk away while they continue to laugh. Evil trolls.

Chapter14

Marín

I’ll give her this…Esme LeClaire gives as good as she gets and that’s why I knew the best way to have both my mother shut the hell up and for Esme to admit how she felt about me was to release to the magazine that we were going to get married.

Was it bullying? Yes, yes it was but it doesn’t change the fact that when she came storming into my office, she proved that the title belonged to her.

There’s that fiery spirit that Esme doesn’t realize just makes me want her more and it’s already too late because we’ve mixed in the sex too.

Of course, sex complicates things but a lot of times, people don’t catch feelings from the casual hookups except Esme’s and I are not doing casual.

We’ve skipped a lot of steps really but that’s what happens when you try to rig the system.

I sit back in my office and focus on my desk that I had Esme bent over and ass up on. The bubbling of laughter threatens to escape but it doesn’t instead I let lust take over. There’s something that happens to me everytime I feed Esme my dick.

She takes it so damn well and gives back as much as she can. I like that I drive her crazy. It fits me as a Latino. I’m doing the way of my people justice. If my cousins were here, they’d approve of me keeping up the ways of ignoring the whole dating phase.

It’s not like they don’t date but Costa Ricans don’t care about all that. Although we go with the flow, we enjoy ourselves unapologetically.

As a Tico, the philosophy I have lived by and hell even my father has, is thePura Vidaway of life.

Enjoying the simple things in life but also enjoying it with the ones you love. A slow, relaxed pace of life and in order for Esme to be my loved one, she has to be my wife so I can show her the proper way of living.

Outside of my hectic schedule at work and going to conference after conference, my home life has to be relaxed. It won’t be a challenge once she notices how good life can be with a Delgado.

Plus, it doesn’t hurt that she notices that being a Latin lover is not all talk. It stems from a dose of truth.

The drive back home has music playing like it always does but I’m not concentrating on it. It doesn’t seem to matter in this particular instance as all that my mind is on is what Esme will do with the wedding.

I am well aware that my mother and her do not like each other and don’t plan on liking each other. It shouldn’t be funny to be but it is.

There’s nothing that makes me happier that they don’t get along because if they did, that would raise a huge red flag for me.

I don’t dislike my own mother or anything like that but I also don’t like the grudges that she keeps with people who barely know she exists. There are a lot of things that happen to people and their pasts but it doesn’t always have to become the focus of your life.

There are others who go through a difficult period in life yet they don’t do what my mother has done or is doing when it comes to the Founder’s kids. It isn’t their fault that she’s bitter about the situation but really, if she were that bold, she’d go for all of them but nope, she chooses to go for Esme because she knows that’s the only way she’ll get the least backlash.

Now, she’s going to need to do more with her time and give us something worth reading and respecting.
