Now, Marín isn’t my man because I wasn’t trying to get a man but he was right when he said we had unfinished business. I try to avoid scenes but I’d never be the person who saw something, jumped to a conclusion, and ran off like they often do in movies.
Nope. I’m the type to make sure you saw me see you so you know that I know what I may have seen. Give me my explanations yesterday. Taking my drink, I kindly move to the other side or the bar and sit right next to Marín and look at my phone and sip my drink like I didn’t see him giggling with a supermodel.
He glances my way then double takes when he realizes who’s next to him.Yeah, bitch. I see you.I continue to scroll through social media like the scent of him isn’t enough to heat my body. My hormones don’t seem to be on the same page with my intention to ignore him.
Marín turns and says something to Yasmin in Spanish and she giggles as she walks away.
“Are you going to continue to pretend you don’t see me,Chispa?”
I do a double take like he did. “Oh, it’s you.”
He chuckles when I look back down at my phone like he’s not there. “Just say you miss me. It’s easier.”
“Miss you?” I brave an actual look at him while telling myself not to react to his sultriness. “How can I miss you?”
Damn, he looks good. His crisp, white shirt has the first few buttons open and rests under a checked navy blazer. Marín is sporting a fresh haircut with a side part and his waves coiffed out of his face.
Delgado takes a sip of his drink, knowing he has me trapped in his now dark green gaze.
“Esme,” he starts with a sigh. “It’s not difficult. I want you, you want me. Why turn simple math into calculus?”
I chuckle since he is certifiable. “I may not have noticed you but I noticed Yasmin. Go giggle with her.”
“I'd rather make you scream my name.”
Okay, in hindsight maybe my make-sure-he-sees-me plan may not have been my best idea.
“I know how to scream security.”
Marín chuckles and abandons his barstool so that he’s standing directly next to me.
“Do it,” he dares me. “I like to see you jealous. It makes me hard.” He grips my chin and makes me look him in the eyes. “But there is no need to be jealous, I can make you forget the entire world exists.”
I do my best to maintain my poker face. “Never happening again,Delgado.”
He licks his lips like he can somehow taste my words. “It will. Over and over again. Do you know why?”
“Humor me.”
His beard tickles my ear once he leans in whispering distance. “Because, Esme. There is something between us. You may not want to admit it but you’ll have to soon.”
Marín being this close isn’t good for me. I feel capable of letting him fuck me on the bar and I’m supposed to be mad or at least indignant. I’m not supposed to be so hot and bothered that my mind is willing to erase the memory of chuckling with some other woman weeks after not calling me. This is chaos.
“How so?” I ask since I seem to be a glutton for punishment.
“Because no one will ever fuck you like I do.” He grips the back of my neck so I’m trapped in his eyes again. “Try as you might, you'll never get the high you get from my dick anywhere else and you’ll have to come to the source. Keep running though, it’s fun for me.”
I stand because I refuse to be manhandled and seduced so easily. Mr. Chuckles will have to work if he wants more of me. I’m not handing it over so easily. I order a shot and down it before responding.
“Or I can save us both a lot of trouble and punch you in the dick.”
Marín throws his head back and laughs at my threat like it was a joke. His phone starts ringing and some of his amusement drops.
“Sounds like work.” He pulls out his phone but looks at me again before answering. “You’d save the most trouble by accepting that your ass belongs to me, Esme LeClaire.” His warm hand pats my ass while he answers his phone. “Dr. Delgado.”
Him answering his phone shouldn’t have been sexy nor should watching him slip into doctor mode. He winks at me on his way out of the door. I want to hate fuck him so bad it makes me mad.
