Page 1 of What She Wants

Prologue

Esme

I sit on the table, hating on exam gowns. I understand their purpose, but must my ass be out for no reason. Okay, the reason makes sense. I’m trying out Karessa’s OBGYN. Mine retired like an asshole. I sigh and adjust my position, the crinkling of the paper seems so loud in an otherwise quiet room.

Dr. Murdock was a sweet lady and I guess I can understand her desire to spend more time with her grandbabies but it’s highly inconvenient for someone with my position on the island. People like to pay for our secrets. I don’t have any scandalous medical issues, I just like my privacy especially since that Mireya León bitch made me the tabloid queen.

Karessa got lucky and branched out a few years ago to try a new doctor so here I am. If she can trust him then so can I. Part of me worries about having a male gyno. For me it’s natural to have a man between my legs, but it doesn’t mean I want that man to be my doctor. Karessa, however, promised me he was amazing and with a waitlist like his, he better be.

The door finally opens and the doctor walks in. He’s behind me and I haven’t turned to look since he’ll be facing me shortly.

“Hello, Miss LeClaire,” he begins. His voice carries a Spanish accent and the tone of it makes me shudder.

I’m not surprised by the accent since his last name is Delgado but my reaction to it is unnerving. Sure steps echo in the room until I’m face to face with a whole lot of hot damn. I take him in, dark hair, green eyes, a beard, and a fit body underneath the expensive button-up shirt, tie, slacks, and lab coat.

His smile is professional but it screams seduction. “Are you Dr. Delgado?” I ask.

“Yes,” he looks at his chart. “And you are Esme LeClaire.”

“And I’d have to see you?”

He cocks his brow like he’s trying to understand me. “Well, my name is on the building.”

My eyes drop down to his hand. “Where’s your ring?”

“What does that have to do with your appointment, Miss LeClaire?”

“Not married. Got it.” I shake my head and scoot of the table while clutching the blasted gown to cover my ass. “Nope.”

“Nope? Where are you going?” Doctor Delgado puts his chart down and crosses his arms. Even his displeased look is sexy. It’s too much. “The nurse will join us shortly.”

“It’s not necessary. You’re fired or I’m fired. However it works with doctors and patients.”

To stay covered, I pull my dress on then let the gown drop.

“Is there a reason why?” He questions me as I slip into my shoes.

He’s offended, I can tell by the way he asks but I’m not being rude in that way or for a reason he might think. I know my limitations and I cannot look at him all the time and not encourage him to use the number on my chart.

“Karessa didn’t warn me.”

“That I’m single? That has nothing to do with my abilities as a doctor.”

“No.” I grab my purse and look at him now that I’m shielded with clothes. “She didn’t warn me you looked like that. I don’t do super attractive doctors. If you were married that’d help but I’d still be on the fence. You being single and looking like that is a hell no for me. A dentist or podiatrist, maybe I could handle that, but as a gynecologist it’s your job to see me naked. Triple hell no for me.”

His expression is a mix of annoyance and amusement. Dr. Delgado doesn’t try to stop me when I open the door. I turn back to take one more look. Damn, he’s fine.

“And I don’t doubt your abilities as a doctor. My sister gave you a glowing recommendation. Sorry to waste your time.”

I leave before he can speak and pull me under his spell. I don’t know how Karessa and the other women do it. He seems intoxicating.

In that brief encounter, I doubt I’ll ever forget Dr. Delgado.

Chapter1

I don’t thinkmy looks have ever gotten me fired; it’s usually the opposite. First and foremost I’m a damn good doctor. I don’t need to be fired because I’m single and attractive. What did she think I was going to do? Fuck her on the table? Okay, I’ve done that before and I would fuck her but not if she’s my patient. I don’t mess with my patients.
