“Caring for and loving your mate is not a good example? I made an honest woman out of you last night, remember?”

“It’s certainly a night I’ll never forget.”

Grant knocked again and I groaned.

“Come on. Time to get up. Probably too late for brekkie, but thanks to your mother, I can make a mean cheese toastie.”

“We have to tell the kids today.”

“I know.”

“We have a lot of decisions to make.”

“Not just for us.”

“You mean it?”

“Of course I mean it. We aren’t just tossing those kids off to anyone. They’re ours now. The boys are old enough to voice an opinion so we should probably talk to them.”

“Our first family meeting.”

I kissed her before rolling out of bed to get dressed.

Her clothes were still scattered around the room from her little strip tease. I picked them up and tossed them on the bed for her.

I had a mate and four kids to take care of now. Life sure did have a way of slapping you in the face sometimes. I wasn’t sure I was ready to raise my siblings, or even the best option for them, but the fierce way Tilly included them so quickly told me I wasn’t going to have any say in that.

It wasn’t that I didn’t want them to live with us, it was just going to be a major adjustment for all of us.

My phone rang as finished dressing.

“Hello?”

“Lachlan. You dragged me all the way out here to the middle of nowhere after the mission was accomplished.”

“Hey Marie. So the mission didn’t exactly go as planned. And now the primary concern is stuck in a human prison so it’s a bit of a snag.”

“Archie’s already working on getting him deported back to the States.”

“What about Helen?” Tilly asked.

“Apparently there’s also a Helen, possibly on the loose. We slept in and haven’t gone through debriefing yet.”

“I know, Grant is losing his shit out here.”

“You’re here?”

“We’re here,” I heard her mate yell.

“Holden came with you?”

He grabbed the phone from her. “Dude, you know she’s pregnant and you still asked her to come.”

“She’s like two days pregnant.”

“Seven weeks,” he argued. “And do you know how many deadly spiders and snakes there are here? No way was I letting her come by herself.”

“You’re being ridiculous.”
