Without another word to my team, I turned and walked down the hall to face the one man that could hinder all my hopes and dreams.
Stay cool Lachlan. You can do this. Keep it logical and rational.I just prayed that's how it came across, but from my experience, there was no such thing as a rational mating male and I wasn't certain that I could discern my state clearly in this situation.

Chapter 12
I was pacing back and forth in my room after Lachlan left.
This was crazy!
My father would never agree to such a thing.
Could he actually find my sister?
If he did, would it be in time?
So many questions were running through my mind.
I needed to talk this out with someone logical who could remain calm and not overreact. That was definitely not Kayla. I picked up my phone and called her anyway.
“Hey,” she answered in a sleepy voice.
“Hey. Can you come over? We need to talk. I need to talk,” I clarified.
“Till, I thought you said you wanted to be alone tonight.”
“But I wasn't alone and I'm trying not to freak out.”
“What?” she asked.
“I’ll explain when you get here.”
“On my way now.”
I got dressed and resumed my pacing while I waited.
In record time, I heard a curse followed by a loud crash and then a, “I'm okay,” from the hallway.
Smiling to myself, I waited.
Two knocks sounded at the door and then Kayla opened it and let herself in, careful to lock it behind her.
She frantically looked around the room as if she expected someone or something to jump out and scare her at any second.
“He's gone,” I assured her.
“He? What the hell is going on, Matilda Rose?”
“Stop saying that, you sound like my mother.”
“Your scary mother, so that's appropriate.”
“Why? Are you trying to scare me?”
“Don't be absurd. Just spill it. Why did you call me in the middle of the night to come over here?”
“It's not that late, “I argued, then took a deep breath. “Sorry. I do need to talk.”
