“I’m always optimistic.”

I gave her a look because we both knew that was bullshit. She always went to worst-case scenarios before readjusting with a positive outlook.

“Let’s find a servo and grab drinks and snacks on our way back.”

“Did you see one on the way?” I asked.

“Nope. But there has to be one somewhere.”

“Maybe.”

She linked her arm with mine, making me feel not quite so alone as we walked around Campbell territory. The layout wasn’t so foreign now, or at least not as shocking. We knew what to expect. It made me wonder if this could ever be familiar enough for me to call home.

Mine, my dingo whined in my head the further away we walked.

I was pretty sure she wasn’t referring to Campbell Tribe.

Lachlan

Chapter 9

When I came to, we were all on the plane and back in the air.

“What happened?” I asked, feeling groggy.

Then it all came rushing back to me and I jumped up with a menacing growl.

“Where is she?”

Michael cringed, and the rest of the guys wouldn’t even look my way.

“Pretty sure we found her, and she’s already spoken for, Lachlan. If you were to pursue her, it could cause massive trouble for all of us.”

“What the hell are you talking about? She’s my mate. I have every right to pursue her.”

“If we’re right, she’s in line to be she-Alpha of Campbell Tribe.”

I knew the importance and power that came with that role far better than they did. But it didn’t matter. She had to be the one to make that choice as far as I was concerned.

“I’m sorry, man. I was given orders to keep you away from Campbell territory. Patrick is having a shit-fit thinking we’re going to blow the whole mission over this.”

“You reported me to Patrick?”

“I had to. After the last few incidents mating has caused. . .”

“Yeah, for you arseholes.”

“Probably. And we aren't proud of it, but orders are orders. Bravo is going to go in and finish security there. We’re taking over their schedule instead and heading to King Tribe.”

There was a smirk on his face when he said it and all I wanted to do was smack it off him.

“This is wrong, and you all fucking know it.”

I was beyond pissed. I had supported each and every one of them through their own mating and beyond, and now that it was my turn, they drug me and take me away from my mate? I couldn’t even put into words just how disgusted I was with all of them right now. Not one of my Delta brothers looked willing to stand up for me. It had me reconsidering my place on the team and whether Westin Force was really where I should be.

“Are you sure we’re doing the right thing?” Walker whispered.

“Let’s just hope we have the right girl,” Linc whispered.
