“Would it be okay if we search through Michelle’s things? Just to rule out any chance she staged this or went willingly with the kidnapper,” Michael said.
“She would never!” the father barked.
His mate reached out and soothed him with a simple hand on his arm. That simple gesture nearly broke me. It was a visual sign of the bond I craved with my own mate.
“Let them do their job, Danner. Please?”
The fight left him, and he nodded.
“Down the main hall, last door on the left.”
They didn’t follow or lead the way as we excused ourselves and headed down the hall.
The closer we got, the more excited my dingo got.
When we reached the end of the hall, my team went to the left into Michelle’s room, but I couldn’t seem to stop myself from turning right and walking into the younger sister’s room.
Matilda.
There was something so familiar and comforting about her room. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but for some reason, my dingo calmed.
I couldn’t help it. I laid down on the neatly made bed and just breathed, probably for the first time since my mate’s haunting brown eyes had stared up into mine before turning and running away.
In that moment, in that room, I was entirely at peace despite everything that was happening.

Chapter 10
Home at last.
“That trip was horrible,” Kayla insisted.
I wanted to argue with her and tell her it wasn’t that bad, but yeah, it had been. For some reason the guys I’d met and called themselves Westin Force were not on the team that arrived this afternoon. It was strange and made me a little leery.
Who had I been talking to?
I’d been so thrown off by meeting my true mate that I didn’t stop to question the group of men that had talked to me and Kayla.
The good news was that we didn’t even have to stay the night there. Everyone had been in such an uproar over the news of a possible attack coming from the real Westin Force team that I had been sent home immediately while they dealt with it.
That was fine by me.
“I’m just glad to be home. It’s late and I’m exhausted.”
“Me too, but look.”
She nudged me until I looked up and noticed the men we’d spoken with back at Campbell were all there, talking to my parents.
“Another dingo missing from my territory?”
“I don’t think it’s like that, sir. Honestly, what we have is a mating male trying to get back to his mate.”
“Poor bastard. That’s got to be tough. But I do not like the thought of a mating male running loose in my territory, especially a desperate one.”
“I understand, sir.”
“Tilly, welcome home. I’m sorry your trip was cut short. It’s all a mess.” Mom hugged me.
