“Lucy?”

“Yeah, um, I’m really sorry to bother you, but I don’t know who else to call. Micah and I had a really big fight after ladies’ night and I haven’t heard from him since. I can’t find him, Kelsey. It’s freaking me out. I just need to talk to him.”

“I thought you were going home to seal your bond?”

“He wanted me to meet his parents and I freaked out. I said some awful things and made him leave. What am I going to do?”

“You’re going to set your pride aside and get your ass over here. There’s been an accident, several rockslides at this point. Micah’s onsite helping. I can’t do this alone, Lucy. I need your help. I’m exhausted after this last healing and there are still more to come.”

“Micah’s there?”

“Yes.”

“I can’t, Kelsey, he doesn’t know.”

“I don’t give a shit. I need you right now. Don’t make me command you, Lucy.”

“I have Vada here.”

“Emma just got to Shelby’s to watch the triplets. She’s great with kids, I promise Vada will be safe there. Drop her off and Shelby will bring you here. But, Lucy, hurry.”

“I’m already en route.”

I had jumped back in the car the second she had said Micah was with her and was already driving. A few more turns and I pulled into Shelby’s driveway.

There was a loud commotion on Kelsey’s end. Everyone was cheering.

“What’s going on?”

“Micah found the last boy we’ve been looking for. I think everyone might finally be accounted for, but there are so many injuries that I still need your help.”

“Okay,” I said hesitantly.

Emma appeared to have been waiting for me as she ran outside and snatched Vada from her seat. My daughter started to cry.

“She’s fine,” Emma said as Shelby slid into my passenger seat. “Go!”

“Do you need me to drive?” Shelby asked.

“No, I’m fine. Just tell me where.”

As I was backing out of her driveway, it sounded like a bomb went off and I wasn’t sure I was just hearing it through the phone.

“Kels, what happened?” Shelby asked.

“Oh my God!”

My heart sank and I knew something terrible had just gone down.

“Kelsey?” she tried again.

“The cave collapsed. They got the kid, but it doesn’t look like Micah made it out. I have to go.”

She disconnected the phone call and I thought my heart stopped.

I was shaking all over.

“Pull over. Let me drive,” Shelby said. “Lucy? Can you hear me?”
