She gave me a weird look and shook her head as I felt like my heart was about to explode in my chest. It was the first true sign of acceptance I have felt from here. Sure, there had been smaller things, but this felt major.

“To be honest, I think my wolf would be a lot happier and more settled if I were close to you each day.”

I couldn’t stop myself this time. I wasn’t going to hold back. I closed the gap between us and I kissed her as if my life depended on it.

She gasped and then sighed as she kissed me back.

CHAPTER 9

LUCY

I vaguely remembered hearingthe little bell chime as the door opened behind me.

Micah pulled back abruptly cutting our kiss off.

“Nonna. I’ll be with you in just a moment.”

“Woo wee, if that’s the kind of treatments you’re handing out these days, sign me up, lover boy.”

The tips of Micah’s ears actually darkened.

“Sorry,” he whispered to me. “That’s my three o’clock.”

My head was still in a daze, until I heard three o’clock.

“Wait, it’s three?”

“Yeah, or about. She usually arrives a few minutes early.”

“I have to pick up Vada,” I practically shouted.

He stilled me with his touch. “Hey, we’ll talk more tonight about… you know,” he said glancing over at Nonna.

I was well aware of who she was and had already suspected she was a bit of a gossip around town. Making out with the Pack physician in between appointments was not exactly the thing I wanted everyone in Westin Pack to know about me.

“We’re cool?”

“Yes, but I really have to run. And don’t forget to eat,” I yelled over my shoulder as I ran out of the building transitioning fully into mom mode.

I could hear Micah chuckling as the door closed behind me.

I raced over to the school. There were still cars lined up, but I was the last of the line. I usually parked and went inside, but as soon as Vanessa saw me, she disappeared and returned with Vada.

“Hi Mommy.”

“Hi pumpkin. Did you have a good day?” I turned to Vanessa before Vada could respond. “I’m really sorry. I was running behind.”

I certainly wasn’t going to tell her that I was making out with Micah and lost track of time. I knew my cheeks were burning just thinking about it.

“See you tomorrow, Vada.”

“Bye, Nessa.”

I knew I had to stop thinking of him and concentrate on my daughter.

When we pulled up to the house, there was a car waiting out front. I knew it wasn’t Micah’s. I didn’t recognize it at all.

The door opened as I parked and I got out and walked around to put myself between the newcomer and Vada.
