“Could we raincheck on stopping by? Maybe tomorrow?”

“No,” Mallick said.

“Dad.”

“What on Earth could be more important, son?”

“I need to go home, clean up, and then make this woman officially mine.”

I gasped and looked up at him. He was grinning from ear to ear.

“Well, okay then. Breakfast tomorrow. Word travels quickly and I do not want your mother knowing I heard it first.”

Micah chuckled. “Okay.”

Shelby walked up next to me. “I’ll just keep Vada for the night then. You can pick her up in the morning on your way to Mallick’s house.”

“Oh my gosh. You heard all that.”

“Lucy, everyone heard you loud and clear.”

I buried my face in Micah’s shirt taking a second to breathe in his scent and let it ground me. I never wanted to be away from this man again.

“Are we really doing this?” I asked him.

He froze and I saw the fear in his eyes. “I’m not forcing this on you. You have a choice, Lucy.”

“Then shut up and take me home.”

“You’re saying yes?”

“Absolutely. This weekend was awful and I never want to fight again and…”

He silenced me with a kiss as those around us cheered, then he cradled me in his arms and carried me off into the sunset to mark me as his.

It was about time.
