“Are you busy right now?”

“No, I was actually going to stop by the store to talk to you this afternoon,” she confessed.

“I’m not feeling well, so Chasity is covering for me today.”

“Oh, are you at home then?”

“I will be in a few minutes. Can you come on over?”

I didn’t want to face this alone, but I didn’t want to worry Luke unnecessarily with it either. He had a lot on his plate as Beta, much more than either of us had imagined. He seemed happy with his new role and responsibilities though, not as stressed as when he was Alpha.

Snow had set in across Wyoming giving everything that winter wonderland effect that I loved. The beautiful landscapes on the drive home helped to calm my nerves a little.

I beat Lily there and rushed in to make a run for the bathroom. I wasn’t at all ready for this, but I really had to pee. I took the little stick out and threw the box on the counter as I walked down the hall. I wasn’t even a hundred percent sure I was going to make it. That was another problem I was having. I always seemed to need to pee.

I tried not to think of how gross it was to pee on a stick, as my stomach jumped around as if there were a million butterflies inside.

I was just finishing up when I heard Lily arrive. I left the stick next to the sink as I went to greet her. I suddenly remembered that she and Thomas had been trying for months to get pregnant, and here I may have a very unplanned pregnancy on my hands. It wasn’t fair and I felt like an ass for not thinking of it sooner. Selfishly, I just wanted my friend’s support.

I made a quick decision not to tell her after all.

Walking in to the kitchen, Lily stood there with the pregnancy test box in hand.

“Um, is this what you wanted to tell me?”

“Sorry, I forgot I threw that down out here.”

“So, you’re pregnant?” Lily asked with a huge hopeful smile on her face.

I couldn’t just dismiss it at this point. Lily would never let that fly.

“I don’t know yet,” I told her. “I just haven’t been feeling very well. I just peed on the stick,” I finally blurted out.

She hugged me. “Either way, it’s going to be okay. I can sense you’re freaking out right now.”

“Just a little,” I admitted. “That’s why I really wanted you to be here.”

“Where’s Luke?” she asked.

“I’m not telling him without knowing for sure. We’ve not really talked about kids. I don’t even know if he wants a baby, and it’s so soon. I mean we sealed our bond exactly one month ago today. I’m not ready to be a mother.”

“Would you just breathe. Let’s wait and see what happens before worrying about the rest, okay? One step at a time. Now how long since you tested?”

“Just as you arrived,” I admitted.

“Well come on, it’s got to be ready by now.”

I was shaking as we walked back to the bathroom.

“It’s there,” I said. “You check it.”

“Sorry girl, but I’m not touching that thing. You peed on it. But I’m here no matter what it says.”

“Gee thanks,” I laughed.

I picked it up. “Two lines. What the hell does that mean?”

“Two lines are you sure?”
