I threw my head back and laughed before rolling off of her. And pulled her into the position we were becoming accustomed to sleeping.

She lifted her head and frowned at me. “Are you really just going to go to sleep now?”

“Sydney, I like harassing you, but I would never in a million years take advantage of you like that. You said, “No.” I heard you. I respect that. It won’t stop me from scooping you up and taking you back to your place first thing in the morning, and having my way with you though. But I get it, you feel awkward having sex in a house full of a couple dozen shifters. I respect that.”

I reached over and turned off the lamp on the night stand. I still wanted her, and if she gave me any inclination that she had changed her mind, really changed it, I would be all over her. But it was more important for me to just hold her through the night.

“You’re a tease,” she said with a big yawn.

“You love me anyway.”

“Yes, I do,” she said.

I grinned into the dark and lay there waiting until I heard her snoring next to me. Pretty sure I fell asleep with that smile still plastered on my face.

Chapter 25

There was so much to do and so many things to plan for that it was overwhelming. Everything was moving so quickly. Three more days passed by in a blur and it was suddenly New Year’s Eve. We should have been preparing for a big Pack party, not salvaging what we could and preparing to move.

I scowled, as I flipped the pancake I was cooking.

Luke and I had stayed over at my house last night. He had reached his limit and we needed some alone time. I was a little sore this morning, but in the best possible way ever. Every time with Luke got even better. He took my breath away and I had never been so happy, at least with that part of my life. The rest was still a little concerning.

I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t even hear him get up.

“Truth or dare?” he said, and I yelped a little in surprise.

“Don’t sneak up on me like that,” I scolded.

He just laughed. “Babe, you’re a wolf shifter. Your hearing is superb, and I was not trying to be quiet. So, truth or dare?”

I rolled my eyes. “Fine, truth.”

“What were you thinking just then that you didn’t even hear me walk in?”

I frowned. “Just a little sad that it’s New Year’s Eve, and we should be celebrating and excited for a new start together. But with everything going on, I just don’t feel like celebrating this year.”

It was his turn to scowl. “Everything’s going to work out, Syd,” he said trying to reassure me, but I had also learned this week, that he said stuff like that as an affirmation to himself, as much as for me.

“I know. Well, truth or dare?”

“Truth.”

“Do you really want to move the pack?”

I knew I was hitting back hard, but it was a question I really needed an honest answer.

“No, I don’t. I just don’t know how to stay either.”

I nodded. “That’s what I thought. Thanks for being honest.”

“I’m always honest with you. It’s your turn. Truth or dare?”

“Truth,” I said. I had played this game enough times with him in the last couple of days to know I wasn’t awake enough for his dares yet.

“Did you always want to be Pack Mother?”
